I think it's a testimony to Alonso's driving skills that he managed to
win 2 WDCs driving that piece of crap and beat a 7xWDC driving a
Ferrari in the process. Briatore will retire after this season.

By the same token, teams sometimes win championships with less than
the very best drivers, but never with crap drivers.

Renault have lost a key component of their winning set up - their best
driver. Fisichella and Kovalainen are not in the same class.

Nobody stays at the top forever anyway. Winning streaks must always
come to an end - even the long ones. McLaren won 3 championships on
the trot in 1984-86, and four more in 1988-1991 but then they slid
backwards for several seasons. Scumacher and Ferrari won 5 on the
trot, as we all know, but then had a poor 2005 and a better but
ultimately not quite good enough 2006.

Benetton, with largely the same management team, were dominant in 1994
and 1995, and then endured a period of lesser success.

All things must pass.
