Yea, anything disturbing the peace and quiet of St Kilda of an evening
would be really bad!

"I would like to make sure we can watch (the race) in Europe and other parts
of the world at a respectable time rather than having to get up at three or
four in the morning."

But that is exactly what makes the season opener so special! It is different
from all the other GP, I don't mind getting up at four, after having been
waiting for months for the next season to start.

Let's see. Would that be "Where the lights don't shine?"

One year I spent a week of 26-hour days, just to adjust to Australian time
for the race :-)

Well, running in European countries would have solved the problem without
any need of racing at night...

M S - spot on!

The australian race is what makes formula 1 so special - I love
getting up in the middle of the night (yes, I even get up for the
Qualifying too) to watch the first, much anticipated, race of the
season.

Let's see how the first night race (Malaysia, is it? I may be wrong
there) turns out.

And here on the east coast of the U.S. the race starts Saturday night
around
10:30pm or 11pm. Nothing greater than watching the first race of the season
live
Saturday night.

The European countries should be saying - you want us to watch? But you
don't want us to host your races? Take your paddock club and shove it.

Now that's precisely the bit that's been puzzling me..

The North American time zones seem to be the best for TV ratings. I recall a
couple of years ago where the Montreal race had the highest TV viewer ship of
F1, and ranked 3rd over all for all sporting events that year.
