While the other teams honour the August testing ban, which has been in place for five years, Ferrari returned to Monza (Italy) on Monday morning. There is no "August testing ban" as part of F1. No, there is no ban - but all the teams have adhered to "no testing in August" for years & no doubt a number of them could have benefited from doing some testing during the summer break in recent years - but they didn't break the "agreement" Just because you have a few teams agreeing to fuck off for the month while more serious times try to actually improve their cars is not in any way a Ferrari problem. ....but I doubt it will win them many friends in the paddock - and one day they might need them. The Ferrari "win at all costs" attitude is only good for Ferrari & does nothing for F1 or any concept that there might be any sportsmanship left in it. Of course its a business but to thrive as a business it needs to at least still show a semblance of being a sport. That's what the punters buy into. |

Perhaps because I'm an American and we don't get August off, but think of how silly it would be for Man U. to take three weeks off from practice in the middle of the run-up to the World Cup. Americans will never really understand Soccer, will they? |
