I plan on working at the Grand-Am and ALMS weekends, along with a
smattering of the SCCA Club weekends.

You know, when I retire, six months spent touring the US taking in a few
race meetings sounds like a good idea...

Hmmm... yep, that sounds like a good way to pass some time... of course
it's OK for you lucky buggers who started work before the Beloved Leader
started frigging with the retirement age and when pension schemes
actually meant something

You could put together one hell of an intinerary, too...

Most of the GA and ALMS calendar appeals, and as much ChampCar as
fits, then some obvious don't-miss meetings like the Monterey
Historics, Pike's Peak hillclimb, Bonneville Speed Week perhaps for
something *really* out of this world (one day I'd love to take one
of the SAE guided tours to Bonneville, they sound like a real
blast)... then some NASCAR - Daytona 500, the Glen, maybe some of
the short ovals too... and maybe even the Indy 500 if they can ever
scrape together a 33-car grid again, that doesn't include N'th
generation Foyts and bits of Tony George's family

Same series, but without the prototypes. I don't care for the DP's
myself, but they will not be there. The GT cars make for excellent
production-based sports car racing, though. There should be 3 races:
Koni Challenge (formerly Cup) ST and GS classes should have separate
2-1/2 hour races with at least 30 cars each, and the Rolex GT cars
should have a 2 hr 45 min race. The Cup races last year were excellent
and I expect more of the same this year. The GT race was a little boring
since there were only 17 or 18 cars in that field. I think the GT field
should be a little larger this season, though.

Grand-Am is on Memorial Day. ALMS has been run around July 4th the last
few years and will be July 6 & 7 this year. The Vintage Festival should
be the first weekend in September IIRC. Aug 31-Sept 3, or somewhere
around there.

IIRC it's $15 to get in on a club weekend unless you are an SCCA member,
in which case admission should be FOC.

Look out for the green & white BMWs of MCM (#21 & #24) in the Rolex GT
race, also the #24 ST BMW in the Koni Challenge, they are all run by
friends of mine. :-)

Oh and also in the Rolex race the #57 Stevenson Motorsports Corvette,
Ron would never forgive me if I didn't mention him and the Synergy
Racing Porsche as Price Cobb is such a nice bloke.

I'll stop now as most of my other friends are connected to the DP
teams... ;-)
