F1, the pinacle of motorsports. Seems like such a long time ago.. When are
the powers that be going to realize that as long as it's called racing and
it's the guy that goes quickest that wins, it's going to cost a lot of
money.. Anything else and you have a spec series.. Which isn't necessarily a
bad thing, it's just not what F1 should be..

I was thinking they could clone JPM.

- power-boost button, 13 second per lap
- identical bodywork for all the teams

Can't see either of these happening, but the others all seem okay.

Happened in NASCAR... Car of Tomorrow, anyone?

pete

I don't even like NASCAR, and I prefer the "Car of Yesterday"!
(They're switching to unleaded petrol, eh?)

Though I think that the idea of a green F1, utilizing the burgeoning
technologies in development by the manufacturers is a great idea.

F1 has always been a place where new ideas are tested, developed and rolled
out. And what better place for such a thing to happen than F1?

Using bio-fuels would be interesting for sure.

The specifications of the engine sounds suspiciously like Champ Car.

That, I don't like because it is a "cookie cutter" idea.

Then there are two people who said things about the old versus the new.

One was Roger Penske when his LMP2 Porsche won it's first ALMS race.

Something to do with how, in the old days, the Porsche's were over 1,000 BHP
and all they had was power to make the car fast, and how the LMP2 Spyder was
1/2 the horsepower and just as fast thanks to almost 30 years of aerodynamic
progress.

The other remark?

When the IMSA GTP series was on back in the 1980s and didn't adhere to the FIA
sportscar fuel economy rules for C1.

Porsche driver Derek Bell said "People don't come to races to see fuel
economy".

Both are genuine considerations.

I can see why an audience of billions for an F1 race on TV would be more
important than the meagre 100 k in the stands at a race, when a car is painted
like a "green screen" and computer graphics technology could put "Your Ad
Here" for the viewers watching at home.

It would take care of the weird and misgiven laws like in Canada not long ago,
when different levels of government pitched in to pay for the spots on the cars
that advertised tobacco on TV that were removed, due to it being on the car
($30 million). Or booze being advertised on the cars in Muslim countries for
that matter.

F1 is a "TV sport", after all. (but not according to Ross Brawn's opinion of
the ITV feed from his home in England).

Imagine sitting in the stands, watching the giant monitor so you can see what
the car's livery really looks like!

Ouch!

If adopted, radical new engine regulations could be set to change the face
of Formula 1 from 2011 according to a document outlining the FIA's
proposals for the future of the sport which have been sent to all current
F1 manufacturers, as well as both Ford and Volkswagen-Audi, who may join
the sport in the future.

engines
- 2.2-litre V6 turbocharged
- running on biodiesel fuels
won't work. You need at least 3l to get the best from a diesel. That's why
Audi built a 5.5l V12 for Le Mans..

Quote:
- 770bhp
- restricted to 10,000rpm
- have to last 5 races

other
- kinetic energy recovery system
- traction-control
- four-wheel-drive
- power-boost button, 13 second per lap
- identical bodywork for all the teams
Why not go the while hog & clone the drivers as well?

Very nice Mosley. Very nice.
Utter crap. F1 is becoming a spec-series with spec drivers....

Well, that's new to me.

But, on the other hand, I always thought that the ALMS Corvette C6r GT1 worked
better than the C5r because they ditched the 8 track player to save weight.

That and the carbon fiber glove box door and trim, yes.

I almost bought one. A woman I know said "Why do you want to drive your cock
around town for?"

That changed everything.
