Default [OT] More PC help please - 05-19-2007 , 06:58 AM

OK so I have:
An NTL cable modem connected to
a Belkin wired router connected to
Two PCs running windows 2000 using Nics.
I've now connected (wired) a laptop running Vista to the router and it
connects to the Internet fine but can't "see" the other 2 PCs at all.
From the PCs the Laptop shows as an Icon in network places but if you
try and access the Laptop it comes back with:
Login failure: account currently disabled
I'm sure its something simple but I'm losing the will to live trying to
figure it out.

Buy a garden hose, get a good nozzle.

Plug in the garden hose to a good plumbing supply of water, plug the other end
into your optical drive.

Stand back.

Turn on the hose.

Then, buy a Mac.

Problem solved!

Windows networks are "peer-to-peer" networks, not "client-server"
based. What this means to you is ANY pc on the network you wish to
"see" MUST be sharing something. (Usually a hard drive or at least one
folder on a hard drive) From "My Computer", right-click on a hard
drive and choose "sharing & security" then follow the screens to
completion. You will have to reboot the machines as Windows querries
the network during the boot process.
Let us know how it goes....

It is simple. Your computer is fine. Just kill yourself.

I don't know about you, but the Mac commercials are funny as Hell!

Comedian John Kellogg Hodgman's personification of a PC is hilarious.

It's a rare time when I actually enjoy an advert!

Thanks for assistance:
Once I have rebooted the PC its icon showed up on the laptop in Network.
Then I had to sort out Zonealarm to let the Laptop past.
Then I had to create a username for the Laptop on the PC.

I guess this passes for humour in moron-world.

No.

I don't attend repertoire theatres, pay $3.00 just to watch commercials.

I do, however, work in marketing and never miss the on-line Super Bowl adverts!

I hate American football. The adverts for their championship are the only
reason for it, in my view.

It could be worse.
