RIP Syd Barrett

Died at home today aged 60 :-(

Despite his own protestations I always felt it was Roger Waters and
not Syd who made Pink Floyd what they were. Certainly for me the
music he directly influenced didn't appeal, although plainly it very
much did to others.

"Shine on you crazy diamond"... probably Syd's best.

Is that a whoosh, Paul?

That sort of reminds me of the best open air concert I ever went
to.....Knebworth in 1975 where Pink Floyd finished their "wish you were
here" tour.
A whole crowd of us young'uns complete with picnic, drinks coolbox and
generous helpings of narcotics.
Their set started with two Spitfires buzzing the crowd and was later
accompanied by a biplane doing stunts in the eye line behind the stage.
Glorious weather and music...a truly great day.

Wonder what Waters will do this weekend @ Magny Cours in tribute to
Syd?
On another thought is the Roger Waters show going to be broadcast
anywhere on the airwaves or on the net?

I suspect a very lachrymose version of 'Wish You Were Here'. Also, given the
circumstances, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Gilmour and Wright turn up
on stage at some point with Waters and Mason - perhaps for WYWH. Equally,
I'd be equally unsurprised if it didn't happen.

I was supposed to be going, leaving Thursday lunchtime, but because of a
sudden glut of work I can't. I've been looking to find out if it's being
broadcst; you'd have thought so, but buggered if I can find it. I thought
his Hyde Park show a couple of weekends ago might have been broadcast too,
but apparently not.

Isnt Gilmore touring over here in the States? But it wouldn't be a
shock to see them all show up. If you find the show live or on a
torrent let me know.

AFAIK Gilmour's tour has ended - for now - barring a few festival dates in
Europe next month. There's a reason, though, that Waters and Gilmour can't
tour at the same time - they use the same keyboard player, Jon Carin, and
Waters has got him at the moment.

It will show up on a torrent sometime soon - probably first here;
http://www.yeeshkul.com/forum/index.php

However I'll keep looking to see if there's a live broadcast.

I'm too tired to continue (02:56)
feel free to finish off.....
