Default OT - Ta ra rum pum - 04-27-2007 , 03:15 PM

Yeah baby! To be released today across India, is a movie, which
well, is a story of a NASCAR driver! And no, its not some joint
Indo-American film venture, but 100% Indian and from one of the
oldest, biggest and most renowned production houses in Indian
Cinema, under the Yash Raj Films banner (read "we make hits only")!
All top of the line star cast, who absolutely rocked in one of
their earlier pairing...

I am no movie buff, but hey, a NASCAR movie is shocker! You know
what I mean? Given that auto racing has absolutely no following
in India, if you think in layman terms, yes its building up, but
mostly its f1-racing ("-" = minus), gen-next thingy;

I am sure its slotted for a global release as well. I haven't
seen it yet, but what the hell, do check it out! I would like to
think that the brightly painted taxi cabs are going to be a hit
here, but wondering the reaction should a Yankee see it! LOL!
And well, brand Chevy is trying to make a big time entry in the
Indian car markets. So there's the marketing. :-)

Expect some drama in the pace car period... you get plenty of
time there, like 50% of the race right? :-P Or may be a song
sequence right on the track :-)

(Comments from Lead actor Saif, on his ARCA/NASCAR exp)

Begins of with:
"To marry is more heroic than racing cars"

Q: Did you undergo any special training to play the role of a racer
in the film?
A: There was a moment when I found it tough sitting in the car -
there are no doors and once you are locked in there, its extremely
hot and humid and it was hard for me to breathe in there and luckily
there was a driver next to me in the other car, when I told him
it was hard for me to breathe, he said, You got to want to do this
and he was talking about the passion and the drive. It might sound
a bit filmy but thats when I realised I wanted to do it and I
stopped feeling claustrophobic.

In this case when the car starts heating up there is a lot of
carbon monoxide that gets thrown into the engine and the car heats
up, - its like a metal coffin in there sometimes there is no air
and there is black smoke coming on to your face because the engine
is open and the kind of gee force that you have on your head when
you are doing these speeds like a 150 miles in an hour Ive never
driven that fast ever, its almost crushing. All the instruments
are crooked on the panel because your head is constantly crooked
so in order for you to read it straight you also have to be
crooked. Its quiet an intense thing, but as usual there was no
training involved but it was a lot of fun.

Q: Have you ever interacted with any international car racers?
A: Not really interacted with them but I have met a few NASCAR
racers they seem like pretty normal guys except for the fact that
they are really crazy.

Not a good St Patricks Day for the Jordan team, no doubt about that.

Wonder what kind of sponsorship will be on his car. Maybe the All
Indian American Gas
Station Owners will sponsor the car. Or maybe the All Indian American Motel
Owners will sponsor his car. Better yet, the All Only Indian American Youth
Soccer Racist Club. We know one thing, if Hadji wins a race he will not be
getting a kiss on the cheek from Richard Gere.

Some cricket link there actually, the lead actor (Saif) happens to
be the son of a cricketer, the famous Nawab of Pataudi, played over
40 test matches, youngest test captain for India, captained Sussex
in '66 as well, mom's a famous actress too from the late 60's. :-)

Didn't believe it until I googled it...

From http://in.movies.yahoo.com/070328/226/6dsoa.html :

"For those of you who are not familiar with NASCAR, it is a racing
league in USA which is a bit slower but definitely more dangerous than
F1. Former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya is currently driving in the
NASCAR series."

Yikes

I don't think they mean it as cause and effect :-)

Effect and cause, then?

Phil

(Just jesting, I quite liked Montoya in his not broken-headed moments)

Just as long as the NASCAR drivers don't do a screen kiss, they'll be fine.

They're after Richard Gere's hide for a peck on the cheek.
