Default OT (World Cup): Be a man - 07-12-2006 , 09:43 AM

Oh shit, why did he have to do that ? Short fuse buddy, way too short
of a fuse.

Not a very exciting game that WC final. Great first 20 minutes, and
then not much. France on the attack most of the time from the 45th
minute but no finishing. Not much of a game for me.

Again, diving for no reason. France somewhat worse but not by much. In
extra time, I saw one of the Italian litterally lose his legs. Problem
was that their was no one even near him... Man, what a great sport this
could be if they could just deal with this shit. BE A MAN AND STAND ON
YOUR FREAKING LEGS. YOU'RE AN ATHLETE. YOU'RE SUPPOSE TO BE SOMEWHAT
STRONGER THAN THE NORM. MY 90 YEAR OLD GRANNY WOULD NOT HAVE FALLEN IN
THIS SITUATION.

Zidane. Wow, that's what I call a short temper ! I've played (and still
do) sports with guys like this. They always seem to find a way to get
into a brawl. "You've hit me on purpose". "Shut your mouth" and the
likes. Me ? I'm the calm one. I play my game, I don't look for trouble,
I don't taunt. If you taunt and get hurt, you've looked for it. If you
snap, you'll get penalised for it. Part of the game I guess.

I've been thinking about Zidane's options. He could:

A) Hit him face to face
B) Hit him from behind
C) Do nothing

I would have done c. But obviously that wasn't an option in Z's mind.
It was either a or b. He chose A. The "real man" thing. Tough guy and
all. I guess you can never totally get rid of those gettho instincts.
But there was an option d.

D) The football thing to do

The football thing to do is, as it should be obvious to all, fall to
the ground and act as if a truck had ran over you. When Materazzi
pinched his nipple, he could have acted like he had just had a bullet
shot through his chest. That would have been the thing to do right ?
Maybe one of the refs would have said "Well, I did see Materazzi hand
on his chest just before he fell" and expelled him. Just maybe. Z most
likely wouldn't have been expelled for that.

You know what Z, I'm glad you've hit him. It's pretty infantile, not
very professionnal, but at least you stood up to him without resorting
to what his the biggest plague of you sport: acting. And when the ref
expelled you, you walked off the pitch without complaining.

A real man stands on his legs and takes his punishment without
complaining. There's a few spots to fill on my hockey team and you're
welcome anytime you like. Just try to work on that temper a little. We
do try to avoid getting into brawls.

You have to admit it was a cracking headbutt though.

No it was assault by Zidane but that is his stock & trade with 15 or 16
red cards. He gave a German player for Hamburg a concussion with a
head butt.

Zidane and France were pissed because France was INCAPABLE of scoring
on Buffon and Cannvaro.

Materazzi scored the only legitimate goal followed by Luca Toni's that
was incorrectly called offside.

France had to resort to a cheap dive to get any goals. Disgraceful.

It was a correct call in fact. Learn the rules.

Are you sure you want to talk about cheap dives ? Hint: Aus-Ita 0:1.
In all my time of following soccer i've only heard of one team having
a player sent off in a world cup, due to his numerous DIVES. Do you
remember who that was ?

Tell me one thing. Why can't Italy go through a world cup without
controversy ? Really, i'm all ears.
