Default Possible Demo in New Delhi? - 04-30-2007 , 11:31 AM

For 2008 and maybe a race in 2009 on a street circuit.

Here is a map of the area that Tilke has signed off on. Looks like another
very tight street circuit. http://tinyurl.com/2ng8ut

Hopefully it can be done properly. The new Champ Car circuit in Vegas is
a prime example of how a street circuit should be: wide (80-90 feet
along the front stretch and at least 50 feet through the rhythm section
IIRC) and long (almost 2.5 miles). If Herm can find streets wide enough
and straights long enough, he could design a street circuit that is
actually conducive to racing.

Vegas looked good, but the Houston circuit was very bumpy, and that's after
they smoothed it out with a cheese grater.

Wondering how smooth the streets of ol' New Delhi are.

Vegas was smooth because they totally repaved about 90% of the circuit.
I get the feeling that the powers-that-be in India would be willing to
spend mucho rupees to make the event a winner, and a total resurfacing
of some streets should be on their agenda.

Wide -- I've seen Tatas go six-wide into some corners -- and fairly
smooth in this district of Delhi.

Imagine threading the India Gate like the Arch at Trois Rivieres.

Lame. But if they really want a race - build the track then sell it to
Bernie and F1
will race there for the next twenty years.

At least that other street course in Singapore or wherever is suppose to
have a great
corner like Eau Rouge.

+1. Couldn't have put better that this. Thank you! :-)

And more importantly, neither are we ready, nor do we need such a
farce at this point time! I hope the Indian Government wakes up
before its too late, puts an override and blocks any attempt to get
a GP track going by Mr. Ecclestone and the highly incompetent,
corrupt local state governments. Both can wait.

There are plenty of important things to get done with, many other
sources for revenue generation, instead of looking at the short
terms gains offered by hosting a GP (Infact I believe if its not
handled and managed by hihgly competent people, it will already
start becomming a liability); And no gurantees that the Indian GP
is a permanent fixture, given you are at mercy of Mr. Ecclestone;

Besides, I fear empty stands, no turn-out at the GP.

A permanent circuit would be preferable, but the situation you describe
doesn't make economic sense. The cost of building the circuit would
likely be greater than what Bernie would be willing to pay. Unless, of
course, they maintained nominal ownership and instead sold Bernie a
'controlling interest' stake...

I think he refers to the Abu Dhabi circuit, that has elements of Monaco
and Spa, with a curve like Eau Rouge.
