In article <7lfi04F3e18kaU1 (AT) mid (DOT) individual.net>, paul (AT) rasf1 (DOT) net

Would Renault be leaving, if they had managed to sign Fred for
another year or two?

IIRC they had signed him for 2010. Perhaps there was a conflict of
interest between his manager and RenaultF1's CEO. Doing the deal before
he was banned presumably made Flav quite a bit of dosh he might
otherwise have been caused to forfeit.

"Tu Quoque" is a fallacy. Alonso didn't rubbish Hamilton after that
event, as he did all season before it, because he was told to STFU
by Ron.

Well I might respond to that if I knew what "tu quoque" means :-)

OK. Thanks. But I haven't played that card. What I pointed out was
that this deal that might be seen as gagging Alonso would equally gag
Hamilton.
I get the feeling that you would be happy to stand in the rain and argue
it's sunny till blue in the face Bob.

You countered Steve's argument that Alonso had been gagged by pointing out
Hamilton had been gagged too.

Did you read the definition posted for you?

Even when presented with incontroversial proof of something, you never give
an inch.

yes you have.

No you didn't what you actually said is reproduced above, verbatim. You
can't change that by saying that you said something different when the
evidence is archived on Google until the heat death of the Universe.

So how then do you construe "the second is an
article by a member of the press reacting to a deal between the two
drivers RE what they will say to the press - a deal that would impose
as many limits on Hamilton as it did on Alonso."

That's verbatim and as archived on Google until the heat death of the
Universe.

I know how I would construe it, but I'm wondering what you managed to
make of it.

IIRC Alonso left McLaren saying that he'd been given a fair shot at
the title, good equipment etc etc. He'd be hard put to make such a
suggestion stick anyway, because as 2007 progressed he slowly gained
the upper hand and outscored Hamilton in the 2nd half of the season.

Didn't the 2007 season end with an incredibly hostile FIA deploying
people directly into the garage to ensure that Alonso was equally
treated? if there was any suggestion that Lewis was favoured, Max would
have strung Ron out to dry without a moment's further hesitation.

McLaren certainly fell under scrutiny to ensure that Alonso was not
given 2nd class treatment for dobbing his own team in.

But when Alonso did complain it was more about how he wasn't given
number one status - he seemed to think that he deserved that even if
it wasn't stipulated in his contract.

Of course, when he negotiated that contract neither he nor McLaren
could have known who the other driver would be. Alonso may have
imagined that he was going to end up as teammate to Kimi Raikkonen or
Juan Pablo Montoya.
