the European sense) program,

"Liberal" used to be a wonderful word.
"Libéral" means economically conservative here. Monetarism, free-market
etc. In this instance, the French have it arse about face compared to
the British interpretation.

Any hope of increasing the amount of Frenchmen being born?
IIRC the birthrate in France is currently the highest (or thereabouts)
in Europe.

There will of course be teething troubles. Strikes, social unrest and
burnt cars, for a year at least. This is France after all. There's
always someone ready to "protest" with a Molotov. Always some champagne
socialist to cry "facho" and stir up the shit.

Why don't you just shoot them?
Because you don't put out a fire with petrol. And for all of the reasons
I've already given you re gun ownership and Europe. You know the
argument : I'm not going to retread it here.

Banners and bullhorns are great things,
but when you destroy a man's car, how in the fuck is he supposed to get
to work the next day? That isn't ptotest; that's terrorism.
Don't exaggerate. No, that isn't terrorism. That's vandalism. There are
insurance companies who sort that stuff out. The word is that many of
the cars burnt in 2005 were wilfully set alight for insurance reasons.

But... once that's done, and France is back on track, the others better
watch out. An on-form France will be a formidable competitor. And as
stubborn, egotistical and selfish as ever.

Don't say I didn't warn you... :-)

I'm not too keen on seeing France become Germany Lite. I never hope to
see the day where the average Frenchmen identifies himself by his
employment. Being French, at its best, means being industrious,
creative, productive and yet still individualistic and free to do
whatever the fuck you want, as long is it interferes with nobody's
rights.
I don't think the fundamental character of the people will change. they
are Latin to the core. Germans are completely different.

It's this part that America has been smashing on the rocks for the past
century.
Americans got the "work to live, not live to work" thing the wrong way
round years ago. Sadly for them. The French went too far the other way.
Now it's all about finding the right balance.
