"We have already contracted our drivers, had our budget approved and
are enrolled in the World Championship. Season 2010 has begun
already."

There is an expectation from the CEO that the team will up it's
performance significantly.

Well, that's good news. The Beeb are still saying Renault are likely to
quit... maybe 2011?
I think the point you made yesterday or the day before stands though. I
can't imagine there wasn't some commitment given as a result of what
happened in Singapore. I would have been _very_ surprised to see them not
there next season.

The only driver I knew had been signed is Robert Kubica, anyone know
who the second driver is?
Glock is the strongest rumour. They also have an option on Di Grassi, who is
apparently confident about driving somewhere next year.

G'day Bob,
I read that carefully.
The 2010 season has begun, but there was no commitment that Renault
would race. Later Ghosn said "Later" ... Renault are out. If you want
to lay a bet I'll give you 10/1.

I'd be surprised to see a complete Renault pull out after the
assurances they gave to FIA at the crashgate hearing.

I'm not a great fan of Edward Gorman, but in The Times he puts forward
what seems a well considered and plausible argument that Renault are
going to spend 2010 negotiating the sale of the team.

I'd also think that a reduced role might be on the horizon - sell the
team but keep on supplying engines.

Toyota looked to be a team on the point of pulling out - no
negotiating with sponsors, no serious courting of drivers. Renault
have looked much more purposeful, signing a well regarded driver and
bringing a new sponsor on board.

However Ghosn could have just echoed the earlier announcement, but
didn't. So there's certainly room for doubt about their taking up a
grid slot for 2010.

G'day Bob,
2010 may be a chance but it'll be a wind down year where they
concentrate the dollars on promotion as well as the sale as you point
out. Engine deals does sound very sensible, historically that has been
a hugh success for them. Wasn't Kubica's deal for only a single year?

One interesting but minor point put to me was that leaving Kubica
without a drive in 2010 would be very unpopular. While he's not No1 on
many fans lists, he is No2 on a hell of a lot.

On the other hand if they are going to pull out of 2010, an
announcement now would not be good timing. A month or so from now
during a period of busy news stories while we are busy xmas shopping
might let them slip out more quietly.

beers,

It also gives them a chance to sell a few more 325's to help pay off
Bernie <g>.
