Default Renault commit to F1 2010 - 11-05-2009 , 03:28 AM

http://www.f1sa.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=18761&It emid=219

"We have already contracted our drivers, had our budget approved and
are enrolled in the World Championship. Season 2010 has begun
already."

There is an expectation from the CEO that the team will up it's
performance significantly.

Well, that's good news. The Beeb are still saying Renault are likely to
quit... maybe 2011?

their statement would suggest that is their plan... seems a bit like
they are (understandibly) NOT expecting a very strong 2010, after
which--combined with this statement--they can easily say "we had told
you to up the game, you didn't, we pull the plug".

There's long been rumours that the Renault CEO will just about
tolerate F1 as long as it's doing the company's image some good.

This was part of the reason that Alonso signed to go to McLaren -
there was lots of humming and hahing from HQ at the time as to wether
or not they intended to stay in F1.

As regards 2010, Renault had already made a promise to the WMSC that
they would race in 2010, and whilst reneging on that might not have
cost them much in terms of money, it was going to be pretty bad PR -
especially given the reason they were appearing in front of the WMSC
in the first place.

So effectively they have committed for one year, and are keeping their
options open beyond that.

I don't think it changes anything other than removing the notion that
withdrawal was imminent.

It seems to me that RenaultF1 live under the axe. It has been thus for
some time. Perhaps when we find out how much it costs Toyota to
withdraw the likelihood of anyone else doing so will be more easily
assessed.

Well, Renault's F1 chief may think that, but the quote from Renault's
CEO is:

"You will have to be patient," Ghosn was quoted as saying by the
Reuters news agency as telling reporters in Paris.

"We will make an announcement on our participation in Formula 1 before
the end of the year."

And that's TODAY.

Interesting point. It might be. I would assume though wouldn't that all
be spelled out in the Concord Agreement? I wonder if they might be
considering only supplying engines for a season.
