Default Alonsoless Renault - 03-18-2007 , 10:32 AM

I think it's a testimony to Alonso's driving skills that he managed to
win 2 WDCs driving that piece of crap and beat a 7xWDC driving a
Ferrari in the process. Briatore will retire after this season.

He didn't beat anyone "in that piece of crap".

....And his rookie teammate made him look like a chump last night.

Well I hate to be the one breaking the news to you but Alonso buried
Schumacher's career. Welcome to 2007, buddy

Renault should have brought in Montoya. Big mistake that they didn't.

But the relative performance of the cars, year on year, is controlled
entirely by the filthy machinations of the BMIA, who are on Renault's
side because they're largely based here, and has nothing to do with the
teams at all, so his point stands.

Hey Bozo!

So as Alonso was obviously able to make the Renault win - what happened?

The Renault was not a "piece of crap" - at least not for the 2005 and
2006 seasons. Championships are occasionally won in a less than the
very best car, but not in crap cars.

By the same token, teams sometimes win championships with less than
the very best drivers, but never with crap drivers.

Renault have lost a key component of their winning set up - their best
driver. Fisichella and Kovalainen are not in the same class.

Nobody stays at the top forever anyway. Winning streaks must always
come to an end - even the long ones. McLaren won 3 championships on
the trot in 1984-86, and four more in 1988-1991 but then they slid
backwards for several seasons. Scumacher and Ferrari won 5 on the
trot, as we all know, but then had a poor 2005 and a better but
ultimately not quite good enough 2006.

Benetton, with largely the same management team, were dominant in 1994
and 1995, and then endured a period of lesser success.

All things must pass.

Yes. Look at how he trashed Kimi and got McLaren to raise their game.

What they should have done was pay Alonso what he's worth.
