Default Stepney moves in Ferrari reshuffle - 02-23-2007 , 07:26 AM

Whats the real / inside story? Is Nigel looking for a new job?
Is this his last season @ Ferrari?

Ferrari have completed another reshuffle of technical staff following a
request from race and test technical manager Nigel Stepney to move to
another position within the team.

Autosport revealed earlier this year that Stepney was unhappy with his
job after a restructuring that had taken place at Maranello over the
winter following the departure of technical director Ross Brawn.

Former head of human resources Mario Almondo has been made the new
technical director, with strategist Luca Baldisserri complementing him
at events. The set-up had left Stepney wanting to follow Brawn and take
a sabbatical himself.

He told Autosport at the time: "I am looking at spending a year away
from Ferrari. I'm not currently happy with the situation within the team
- I really want to move forward with my career and that's something
that's not happening right now.

"Ideally, I'd like to move into a new environment here at Ferrari - but
if an opportunity arose with another team, I would definitely consider it."

Ferrari insisted, however, that Stepney saw out the remaining 12 months
on his contract and have subsequently agreed for him to take on another
role at the team.

Stepney has been made responsible for Team Performance Development,
which operates under the Track Activity Department headed up by Baldisserri.

A Ferrari spokesman told autosport.com: "After many years spent working
on the Formula One circuits, the last 13 of those as part of the Ferrari
Race Team, Nigel Stepney, with the approval of the company, has chosen
to take on a different role that will see him no longer have to attend
the races."

To replace Stepney, the role of Race Operations Manager will be taken by
David Lloyd, while Luigi Mazzola has become the new Test Team and Test
Operations Performance Manager. Both of these men report to the head of
Track Activity.

Oh splendid - make an HR corporate trouser limpet into the technical
director. That's Ferrari fucked then - the average HR onanist couldn't
find his arse with both hands.

Ferrari is sounding very 1992/3, musical chairs and organisational
chaos.

The natural leader that's missing is Brawn.

Either you and Phil just had a humour bypass or you've been well and
truly whooshed...

Interesting stuff this though. It seems to me that:

a) Nigel thought he deserved to be promoted to fill Ross's size 12s;
2) He's fallen out in a major way with Mario/Luca and there's no way
he's going to work for "that arsehole"; and/or
iii) He agrees with Pete and most of the rest of the human race about
HR people in general...

Whatever, it's looking increasingly like Ferrari are about to fuck
themselves. Shame that...

David

I was assuming that Bob was bemoaning the lack of Herr Schumacher, and
not the lack of Ross Brawn, or the promotion of an HR guy (who,
incidentally, may or may not have an engineering background - we should
be told).

I thought he was just bemoaning Kimi.

At some stage he'd have chose to go into HR, so he's probably a
wanker.
If he chose to go into HR, posessing any form of engineering
background ...

Either way - I'm worried for Ferrari in the medium term.

There's some additional info here:

Sounds like he's been in HR only a short time.

You can't be much of an engineer if you willingly move downwards
into HR - that's an occupation reserved for bovine, dim-witted
upper-middle-class Home Counties female Geography graduates (usually
called Zara, Zarah, Sara...) who draw florid and very bad pictures
of stallions, read abominable chick-lit on the Tube, tend to become
"a little squiffy" on two glasses of Chardonnay and think of
themselves as "a little bit wacky, a little bit Ally, a little bit
Bridget, a little bit Sex in the City", and tend to become faintly
orgasmic at the thought of vampire lust and shoes.

Death is sadly far too good for them. Yet they can fuck your career with
the same ease with which they allow themselves to be shagged by rugger
buggers.

The function of HR is to keep employees working as cheaply as possible.

The function of workers is to attempt to thwart HR at every possible
opportunity.
