Legendary Nascar pilot Sterling Marlin fielded questions from the
international press corp following his qualifying effort in the second
Gatorade 150.
Marlin: First of all I want to thank all my team for having this #14
WMD Chevy in great racing form.We were hoping to keep out of trouble
and we accomplished that. The 14 picked up a bit of an tight condition
but Slugger never panicked and we ended up with a good run.Now I will
be happy to take a few questions.
Q-Sterling it appeared that you backed off the last few laps. Was this
an attempt to help the 13 car secure a position in the race on Sunday?
SM-Well we knew that the 13 was gonna be cutting it close and we were
already in the show so yes I did back off a bit and it worked out for
our team.Seems like somebody did that a few years back in F1.
Q-How do you feel about your chances on Sunday?
SM_Well we intend to be runnin' up front at the end.Slugger and I are
not real concerned about starting position...in fact we might be in
better shape starting on row 19.We have Juan Pablo starting in front
of us so we feel like we can team up with the 42 and get to the front
pretty quick.
Q-You have become quite a celebrity abroad. How do you explain the
appeal?
SM- <laughs> You know I really cannot put a finger.I received a copy
of 'Belgium Motorsport Review' a few days back and they had a real
fine article about me and the work I did over there during the off-
season.I must say I was flattered to be called an "International
Motorsport Superstar" but my wife sorta took exception at me being
named to as "Motorsports Most Sexy Pilot" but that all kinda goes with
the territory. |
