Not too sure about CVTs though. I'm not sure any team would want to
"develop" such an untested method during a championship season.

One of the teams (I think it was Williams, cos I seem to remember
Coulthard testing it) was developing CVT some years ago. Just as they
got it working, it was banned by the FIA (I think).

McLaren, protested by Ferrari. Or the other way around.
Again, why the protest?

Cheers,

Let's not get into all this fucking name calling again, and citing
cites and cites of cites and cites of sites. Can we just fucking stay
on thread for a bit (Sorry, I've been upset about other stuff).

Again:

Why was it banned?

Cheers,
Dave

IIRC when Coulthard (it was him 'cos I saw the footage of him testing
it) tested it at Silverstone it was 2-3s a lap quicker out of the box. I
can imagine the FIA going nuts over the prospect of a dominant Williams
(it was about 92/93) team suddenly being that much quicker. They'd have
been 3-4s a lap quicker than anyone else I'd imagine until the other
teams caught up.

Cheers
Graham

You snipped the important part of my reply...

Namely the ":-p", which is to imply I had my tongue pressed into my cheek,
or poking out.

Read the WHOLE post next time... ;-)

CVT is much older than that, IIRC it was developed by Van Doorn's
Aanhangwagen Fabriek in the 60s or 70s.

Ah, that's cos you put it *after* my signing off (that you'd quoted
un-necessarily). I assumed once I got to my sign off from the previous post
there was nothing more of interest...

Again, why the protest?

Because Ferrari are unsporting cunts.

Is that DAF ? Then i agree. In fact the Williams one was developed in
cooperation with DAF, but the thread is not about the first one in
existence, just the first one in F1.

Btw, how the hell can you "recall" Aanhangwagen Fabriek !?

How sad. Innovation is bad, obviously.

In the case of CVTs for

to an 800HP F1 engine will iron out all of those kinks quite quickly.
Williams tested one a while back (when they were running Renault engines?)
and it was nixed by the FIA, so it *is* possible.
