Not too sure about CVTs though. I'm not sure any team would want to
"develop" such an untested method during a championship season.

One of the teams (I think it was Williams, cos I seem to remember
Coulthard testing it) was developing CVT some years ago. Just as they
got it working, it was banned by the FIA (I think).

McLaren, protested by Ferrari. Or the other way around.
Again, why the protest?

Because Ferrari are unsporting cunts.
;-p
Lucky the smiley Frank.

I know you're worth more than that.

Why was it banned?
I think it had to do with the limitation on the number of forward gears a car
can have. The CVT has essentially an infinite number of forward gears,
easily exceeding the seven written into the regulations.

"Infinite" or 1, that is the question.

No, the FIA banned it as it would have given Williams a huge leap on
the others. Just like the fan car was banned and just like the active
suspension was banned.
You are allowed to innovate, as long as your innovation is inline with
the others' innovations. Cool huh ?

Read the WHOLE post next time... ;-)

Ah, that's cos you put it *after* my signing off (that you'd quoted
un-necessarily). I assumed once I got to my sign off from the previous post
there was nothing more of interest...

Nah, you can assume that after you get to the " Matthew

Is that DAF ? Then i agree. In fact the Williams one was developed in
cooperation with DAF, but the thread is not about the first one in
existence, just the first one in F1.
Yeah, I realised after I posted it!

Btw, how the hell can you "recall" Aanhangwagen Fabriek !?

Ah, but that line doesn't appear in any of his posts, only when someone is
quoting one of his posts (IYSWIM).

I'm guessing here, but I think you may have display of headers turned
off...

Ah, good point. My newsreader only shows 2 or 3 header lines (although if
I'm honest 'From:' is one of them <g>).

Is this what they call 'thread drift'?
