Why is it that so many, many people are unable to comment on the race without delivering totally unjustified insults to drivers who have repeatedly proved themselves well worthy of top drives? What is so difficult about the concept that Alonso is a worthy double world champion who was driving a car that for much of last year was not the cream of the crop? What is so difficult about the concept that Raikkonen is a quick and reliable driver who would already have at least one world championship under his belt if it hadn't been for reliability issues in the McLaren? What is so difficult about the concept that Button is a quick driver in a shit car; that Hamilton, far from being a "rookie who has shown up the world champion" is actually a racer with fantastic potential who has given the world a first glimpse of what he himself is capable of; that Nico wrung a great performance from a mediocre car; that Nick Heidfeld has finally got a car that might enable him to turn potential into results; and that Kubica may give him a run for his money? What, in short, is so difficult about acknowledging talent when it is so clearly on display, and what is this need to insult talented drivers merely for the sake of showing off one's command of invective? FFS, we have the prospect here of the best season of racing in many years. That should be good enough for any fan of F1. |
