In 2007 and 2008, I disliked Hamilton... immensely. He came across
as a bit of a so and so who has had everything handed to him and
feels he is owed plenty. Not saying that's how he is, just how he
came across to me.

Ditto.

Though in the eyes of those who can't see it, this was only
explicable by playing the race card.

Brendan, you were over the hill and out of sight before the bandwagon
you are trying to board set off.

If reality catches up with you and you want to explain feel free.
That's precious.
Everytime I read the situation better than you, you prefer to attribute
it to something derogatory.

Brendan, taking strongly against someone for a minor faux pas is not
reading them. You give other drivers a lot more leeway, by a number of
magnitudes, than you ever gave Lewis.

It's like you are claiming that you were predicting that you wouldn't
like Hamilton.

Perhaps if you ever come clean about what it was that enabled that
prediction...

You have always been prejudiced against Lewis. That is fact. It's your
nature.

I think the Feline One has a point, though. The Brits love an underdog,
and tend to be uncomfortable about winning, and winners. God knows what
would happen to this country if Murray were to win Wimbledon, or England
the World Cup next year - a collective nervous breakdown I would think.

Fair go, you grew very comfortable with winning the RWC in 2003, and the
Ashes in 05 and 09. A FIFA WC would fit nicely in the trophy cabinet...

And if they don't win the Rimet this time around, i'm giving up on the
lazy bastards. They were bloody good in the playoffs and have a top
class team, but seen all that before.
Hope we'll also make it a step further than last time.

I've elaborated why many times, Bird. And the reason (behind the symptoms
he exhibited there that put me offside) were seen by many other people in
his words and actions over the following months. You came very late to
the party, possibly later than you would have done were you not intent on
playing my nemesis.

I've also made it clear that he's apparently (i.e. the only way I can
tell) a much different person now and if you were paying attention you'll
struggle to find criticism of him from me for 6 months or so. Even - yes
even when he was caught lying.

If "I've hated him since the second" (you held back) "time I saw him"
counts as elaboration.

Of course it was it just sounded like you had an irrational dislike and
jumped on the first excuse to lambast the youngster.

Afterall he was getting an awful lot of publicity and no-one talked
about Mickey anymore. That must have hurt.

Quite. Over the following months it's not surprising giving the
situation that he was in and being a typically arrogant F1 driver that
he would polarise opinion to a certain extent.

Of course they had more reason...and that marks the difference between
reasonable and unreasonable.

What party was that Brenda?

I have a very healthy and honest opinion about what I do and don't like
to see from drivers and that was no different with Lewis.

I said what I didn't like about his faux pas without letting it
*colour* my opinion of him overall or removing all context.

If you want to make out otherwise go ahead. I'll enjoy showing you up.

OTOH I do realise you are going through a hard time at the moment.

As to Mark.. hint: that picture was taken in one of the Rasf1 cabins.

plenty. Not saying that's how he is, just how he came across to me.

This year, he's different. Something has changed. I've seen his true
colours as a racer. He's not complaining about his lot at the start of the
year, having a grossly uncompetitive car, and got on with the job of racing
the car hard, qualifying hard and trying his arse off.

Kudos to you LH. Wouldn't be surprised to see you win handsomely tonight,
and challenge strongly for the championship in 2010.

Sometimes it's in how we accept defeat that we endear ourselves to others.

Seven shades of shit in front of Fred, IMHO.
I think we in 2007 and 2008 Hamilton was a very, very young man with a
very, very great deal of pressure on his shoulders. The only place he
was free from that pressure was in the car. There's not a lot of time to
be philosophical at F1 speeds, even on the longest straight.

Under pressure it's a natural human trait to go defensive -
denial/withdrawal which comes across as arrogance.

After the childish error he made in Australia at the start of the season
- when simply telling the truth would have the best and indeed the only
correct option - I think the psychological pressure has gradually lifted
as he began to realise that he was only expected to do as well as he
could now, given the car he had.

The change is called growing up.

I hope it doesn't mean he's a *grown up*, I wouldn't wish that fate on
him or anyone, but I do think he's now better equipped to cope with both
failure - and success.

Yet I've always been a fan of Mika, DC, and Alonso.
But you don't like Fred do you because he doesn't fit the racist BritPack
model.
