I think you have to appreciate that most of it has to be faked to allow
filming to take place. The episodes with Clarkson in a fast car dashing
across the continent with the other two racing him in trains and planes
springs to mind. How do the camera crew who film Clarkson blasting past at
150 mph get there?

My assumption is that they do those shots the next day.

They do go back to get lots of shots.

But, we saw him get stopped and ticketed by French police for
speeding, during the race to the ski resort.

I must've missed that one - I don't remember a race to a ski resort.
It was with the Ferrari 612. They raced to a Ski resort in
Switzerland. While the other two were on a train, we see Jeremy
getting stopped by a cop, somewhere on the French motorway, and
ticketed for speeding. Hammond gets a phone call and it's Jeremy
explaining what's happened. They then make a joke of it.

And the Stig was stopped by Fife Polis about 100m away from the gates to
Knockhill....

the fact that the English are at the root of the phenomenon.

Well don't let dated reputation alone stop you from having a good wash each
morning
Each morning!!?? What, EVERY DAY?? You work for Procter and Gamble,
don't you? :-)

Seriously, I don't doubt that it's a dated reputation, in fact I hope
that it is. I'm just saying that they need to keep their noses clean for
a long time - otherwise it'd be like letting Hannibal Lecter out on
parole after 6 months of good conduct inside.

I'm sure all those, like me, who've had their shops/houses/gardens
trashed, or who've been attacked by hoolies, are more cynical and have a
harder time forgiving and forgetting.

The looks of fear on the gangs faces and the crews reaction was more

even in quite liberal circles in the US you have to, as a european,
watch what you say carefully in order not to offend anyone in the US.
americans are not too good at handling differing opinions or the use
of slightly direct language. they love their euphemisms and use them
to an almost parodic degree.
