Default Top Gear - 02-12-2007 , 03:58 AM

Top Gear was awesome last night. They had to buy cars in Miami for $1000 or
less and drive them like 800 miles to New Orleans. When they went through
Alabama they wrote slogans on each other's car like "NASCAR sucks", "Manlove
Rules OK" and "Country and Western is Rubbish".

They got attacked by rednecks.

1000 times better than crashing a jet powered car.

It was one of the best TV programmes I have ever watched and raised
quite a few much needed laughs from me.

Having been to Miami I know I certainly would never have dared go to
that areas of the city, the ones we went to downtown were bad enough!

The rednecks were amazing, I'd always heard stories but to see them in
action was terrifying even from the safety of a TV screen. They didn't
even seem to think for one moment that it was all a set up - they just
went straight into throwing rocks!

Well to be fair he didn't mean to crash it!

Mmmm. Yes, but... can we be sure it wasn't rigged? Top Gear always seem to
fake up parts of their film inserts (the caravan holiday springs to mind,
particularly the staged fire-y ending).

The bit I find more believable is the bit they talked about at the end, with
the lawyer.

But yes, very very funny throughout.

The looks of fear on the gangs faces and the crews reaction was more
than enough to convince me it was real.

Their comments when entering New Orleans (about not realising how
devastated it still was) shows that maybe they didn't really do enough
research as to the places and situations they were heading into.

Could be, could be - but I couldn't help feeling the "camera phone" clip was
just sending up the Blair Witch project.

Indeed. That was really quite moving.

Great tv but I'm sure it was a set-up, I find it hard to believe that
people in America (even hicks) are that bad.
The program did however make America look like a very scary place. I
know all of America isn't the same, but sill........!

I think Jeremy had a good point when he said, "how can the rest of
America sleep at night knowing that this is here", or words to that effect.

I think you'll find that the Italians have taken over that honour
lately...

I did think for a bit that it might've all been a bit Blair Witch, but
it felt very, very genuine. Not a good ad for Alabama.

Yes, that was quite a poignant ending - it's scary to think that in the
richest country in the world there's still such apathy towards their own
people.
