Speed TV interviewed the head honcho at Toyota about the Willis sacking

the single guru designer is over.
It's been over for some time. Increasingly these days there are design
teams. McLaren have different teams for the front and rear of the car.
There will be electronics whizzes and multiple aerodynamicists at most
teams. When Brunner left Minardi to go to Toyota he left other
designers behind and they stepped up to fill the gap. Renault have a
design team, and no one "star" designer.

The exact structuring of these teams and the assignment of roles will
vary, but the days of having one man design a car are long gone.

Also it's probably cheaper to have a team of good engineers well
directed by some kind of overall managemer or management team rather
than head hunt and pay top dollar for a "star" designer who may not
make that much difference.

And with the rules so restrictive these days, there's not a lot of
scope for genius designers who can have big ideas and produce
revolutionary cars.

Remember when all the Yanks came over to Jag to show them how it was
done. The even brought over that guy who stuck parts onto Indy cars to
slow them down.

Yes, right, as soon as the "Yanks" left, then Jaguar F1 was successfull
again, right?
You really ought to stick to "Jacks not testing".

Or making fun of Gerry Donaldson.
Excellent books on Gilles and Hunt, read them both several times.
I rather suspect Fairey does not read books.
