Better enclose those front tyres so the driver can't see them,
likewise no mirrors pointing to the rear tyres.

Taken literally, it's "boy in an opaque bubble" stuff.

Not to mention race suits with seatless pants.

No surprise Ferrari were the only team who voted against.
The final nail in Gay Mike's coffin for a gap year return. The last
time he drove without traction control was early 1993.

My road car will be more advanced then a $1m+ F1 car. That's one way
to push technology in F1 - backwards.
Your road car has TC because you are not a good driver.

Oh who the feck cares.

Hooooray ! TC is gone. Let the real racing begin in '08.

Ran across this article about the ultimate, I would imagine, go-kart
experience and thought you might be interested?

Thanks James.
Interesting read and would be great fun to do, but i wouldn't pay that
much for it.. Especially with traction control hooked up.

Spot on. Nor is it driven on a race track to find out who is the *most
skilled* driver.

Indeed, and I'm sure it's saved a lot of lives already. Mine included a
couple of years ago when I overcooked things a bit in an 80 mph corner in
the rain one day. Much flashing of lights on the dashboard as the back end
stepped violently out towards the car coming towards me the other way at 50
mph (a rather more sensible speed for that bit of road in the wet) and then
several more times as it got the subsequent smaller wiggles under control. 2
seconds later and the 130 mph closing speed collision we were otherwise
heading for was just a memory.

From past experience a handful of opposite lock at that speed in the wet
would only have ended up leading to a terminal tank slapper followed by a
rapid backwards exit towards either the shrubbery or the other car. I'm just
not good enough to hit the right amount of steering correction in those
circumstances and in any case the ESP can do a lot more than I can with just
the steering wheel. If I had four legs and two brains so I could brake each
wheel independently to correct a slide I might get a bit closer to its
abilities.

My only gripe is that at very low speed the system on the Focus can bog the
car down solid for about 2 seconds if you boot it a bit too hard out of a
junction. You end up at a dead stop with the system thinking about things
for a while and the car you pulled out in front of bearing down on you and
nothing you can do about it. Happened to me today coming out of a petrol
station so I turned the ESP off for the rest of the trip, triggered a speed
camera for the first time in ages and had a bit of sideways fun on the
roundabouts between there and home. Once in a while it's rather nice to go
really rock ape and hear the tyres scream a bit although in general I now
rely on the ESP far too much and feel quite insecure without it. A sign of
old age I think.

(PS, the speed camera is one I know about and there are no markings on the
side of the road I was on so you can hoon past it at any speed you like and
they can't do you). I hope anyway.

Perhaps the clue is in your own statement that 80mph was too fast (and
presumably illegal) for that road - I just hope it's not me or any of my
friends coming the other way when you overdo it by more than the TC can
cope with. I can fully understand the desire to drive fast every once in
a while, but that's why they invented track days.
