For a while I was a bit worried that the 'Dynamic Duo' has left the
group for good, but suddenly and nearly simultaneously they appeared
again.

Don't get me wrong, this is a very professional and practical, albeit
a little bit boring NG so the amusement factor is very welcomed here.
Sure there is some mildly amusing Spanish sideshow who can't yet
comprehend that it only took one stunning rookie to show to the world
how overrated Alonso really is. Still, nothing beats the original
stooges!

If only you could be a fly on the Mark's ceiling atm...

Why is it that so many, many people are unable to comment on the race
without delivering totally unjustified insults to drivers who have
repeatedly proved themselves well worthy of top drives?

What is so difficult about the concept that Alonso is a worthy double
world champion who was driving a car that for much of last year was not
the cream of the crop? What is so difficult about the concept that
Raikkonen is a quick and reliable driver who would already have at least
one world championship under his belt if it hadn't been for reliability
issues in the McLaren?

What is so difficult about the concept that Button is a quick driver in
a shit car; that Hamilton, far from being a "rookie who has shown up the
world champion" is actually a racer with fantastic potential who has
given the world a first glimpse of what he himself is capable of; that
Nico wrung a great performance from a mediocre car; that Nick Heidfeld
has finally got a car that might enable him to turn potential into
results; and that Kubica may give him a run for his money?

What, in short, is so difficult about acknowledging talent when it is so
clearly on display, and what is this need to insult talented drivers
merely for the sake of showing off one's command of invective?

FFS, we have the prospect here of the best season of racing in many
years. That should be good enough for any fan of F1.

These posters are not fans of F1. They may, possibly, be fans of a
particular driver, depending how one defines "fan" maybe?

True, true...but the insults are more or less targeted at the
moronically fanatic "fans" than the actual drivers.

I'm a Kimi fan but lets be honest, Alonso won 2 WDC in the 2nd
fastest car, in both years. If Kimi/MS were in the 2005/2006 Renault
they wouldn't have had a fucking hope in hell of being WDC, with
Alonso in he McLaren and Ferrari during those respective years.
Today Alonso was stuck behind Hamilton for 2/3rds of the race on a
track impossible to pass with similar cars. Hamilton couldn't pull
away from Alonso at all. Alonso's pace in those laps were dictated by
Hamilton. Then suddenly Alonso dropped him like a sack of shit after
getting clean air in the 3rd stop.

Well, to be honest, you really can't know that.

Not really. There was never any sign that Alonso was all over the back
of Hamilton except when Hamilton got held up by backmarkers. Alonso was
not even hovering close for a fair bit of the time, he was two to five
seconds behind. If, which I don't believe, he was "just being nice to
the rookie", then more fool him.

That probably has more to do with the fact that Hamilton would not have
the opportunity to pass Alonso even if he caught him, and with the need
to preserve the engines for Malaysia, than any inherent difference in
speed between the two of them.

The difference was consistently 2s, but anyway it's interesting how the
same data can be read in opposite ways.

I've been lurking on some Spanish and British F1 forums and the analysis
are almost unanimous:

According to the British forums, Alonso was not able to get close to
Hamilton (much less overtake him), and only because FA pitted later and
Sato get caught in between, did he get the second place.

Also, the fact that Alonso pitted later than LH shows that the team
orders are there to favor Alonso.

According to the Spanish forums, Hamilton was never able to detach
himself from Alonso, but when FA got in from of him, the champion
managed an advantage of 10s almost immediately, showing what he was
capable of.

Also, the fact that LH pitted later than FA the first time shows that
Ron Dennis has a soft spot for his new protegé, Hamilton.

Aren't people fun?
