What is the world coming to? What a tragedy.

Maybe we can put together a care package or a few jokes for Ric Zito
to keep his spirits up in France during these trying times? ;-)

BTW - is "mimes" plural for mime?

Yes, it's been going on for over a week now, and it's not only actors but
EVERYBODY in the trade (electricians, grips, stunts....) that are opposed
to some change in their status from the government, basically the status
change is "work 20% more and get paid 20% less" so it's understandable that
they're not happy.

The good news is that this time it should not block the streets and
airports, just the summer festivals, but I doubt this will be a big problem
in Australia....or in Magny-Cours....

Elvis Costello was there first: "Clown Strike" from the "Brutal Youth"
album:

But there's one thing that I have to keep inside
Because I was shaken
Why don't you get some pride
There was a clown strike
And the clowns threw down their tools

LOL!

Not sure how this translates in the rest of the world but in the
States - people almost universally dislike mimes. Marcel Marceau gets
zero respect.

If mimes went on strike, no one would care. And who who could the
mimes tell anyway? ;-)

LOL! Good one.

Glad people realized this was not a political troll message. I just
thought it was hysterical & absurd to see mimes and clowns on strike.

BTW, does the labor organzier for mimes actually speak or does he make
their demands known in pantomime?

In the Discworld novels, the one law that the Patrician of Ankh-Morpork made
that got universal approval was a mandatory death sentence for mimes.
I'd go with that. Especially for the ones who "perform" on the
street...

Not the clowns !!! Mind you , i was wondering how Ric had so much time
to post here lately. ;-p
<mimes obscene gesture> :-P

For the record, I'm 100% with the French govt on this, despite being by
nature politically centre-left. Les "intermittents du spectacle" are a
pampered bunch of whingers who have a very special Social Security
status based on the number of hours per year that they work, around 500
and something. Apparently due to the "precarious" stop-start nature of
work in showbiz.

Once they've done those (few) hours, they can claim SocSec for the whole
of the rest of the year, based on their earnings for those hours. That
way they can sit around on their fat arses and moan about what a
difficult life actors/makeup artists/lighting technicians etc etc have.

Ha!! I do as many hours in *two months* and yet can't claim SocSec
because I'm self-employed, despite paying HUGE SocSec contributions and
*generating my own income*, oh, and generating work for other
freelancers as a sideline. Self-employed people are HAMMERED here.

Les intermittents du spectacle? Fuck 'em, and the greasepaint they slid
in on.

I'm also "centre left" and even if the "reform" is not bad once again one
can complain about the lack of discussion, THIS is the real french
disease, first the boss says "I can't do that" then the workers strike
and then the boss says "ok, let's talk" and in the end they get to a
compromise, now if only they would talk BEFORE the strikes it would be
better for everybody...

Hum Hum, I'm not an "intermittent" but what they get as SocSec is 39% of
their earnings, so it's not really "work 507 hours per year and get paid
full time", and the "reforme" is changing from the actual "507 hours in
12 months to get 39% of your salary" to the now "507 hours in 10 months
to get 19 % of your salary", so i can understand they scream....

True, sad but true...
