The Cossie engines will probably be pretty good. They are not too bad
in the Red Bull. Williams lost the plot when they lost Newey then
Renault.
Frank lost the plot when he fired Damon Hill, it's all been downhill from
there.

Bin Laden?

Close, Saudi Air sponsored a team. Alan Jones, who else drove?
They were quite successful as I recall and I wish I could recall more.

No, for once he's right. Can't remember which team, but some of the
cars carried the Bin Laden logo... Bin Laden being a large construction
company in Saudi Arabia.

It's a pretty common name out there, "Bin" being arabic for "son of"
("Bint" means "daughter of", hence the English usage of the word).

It was Williams and Abilad(sp?), Mohamed Bin Laden's company. MBL
happens to be "the" Bin Laden's dad and it's a legit company.
Bin Laden was long gone from Saudi Arabia and i think even Iraq kicked
him him out by then.

Brabham were a great team in the early 80s too. How do you think
they'll go next year?

Don't forget next year it's V8s and neutered V10s. We do not know at
all how each engine supplier will fare. On paper one would expect
Honda, Ford and Ferrari to do quite well straight out of the blocks.
Not so sure about he Bimmers and Mercs, although you can never
overlook those guys.
Doubt the Ford engines will be up to scratch. The Cosworths on the other
hand could be quite useful. (-:

So, HP have confirmed that they will not be the title sponsor of the
Williams team next year. No news there I guess.

Anyone have inside info on who might be stepping up to put their name
on that car in '06? I'm assuming that its a British company due to the
Buttongate-II wranglings and Williams' public comments that sponsors
have been signed based on Jenson being at Grove.

It's just all turning to poo for WilliamsF1 isn't it? Cossie engines,
Bridgestone tyres, drivers wanting out, principle sponsors leaving...
What a difference a decade makes.

There's a rumour that BT (British Telecom) might be up for being an F1
title sponsor in 2006, but the team concerned is not known.

As they, (BT), once ran the advertising slogan 'The power behind the
button', could they be the sponsor that Frank is getting all het up
about keeping Jense for...???

Cheers,

2) Bridgestone - in its first 5 years captured 4 driver's titles and 4
constructor's titles.- yep, those are crap

They certainly have been crap this year, and unless the FIA rescind the
current tyre rules, they'll be crap next year as well. Bridgestone
build a great throw-away tyre, but they've been found out...

(With Michelin leaving the sport in 2007 Bridgestone will be the lone
supplier for F1 again.)

Speculation. Probably pretty well informed speculation, but
speculation none-the-less.

Hmmm. Those Williams cars might look smashing in British Airways livery. Ah
just a thought.

"Fly Saudia" was a main part of unlocking the Williams/Head success
story from 1978 onwards. Saudia was their main sponsor for several
seasons. The FW07 driven by Jones and Reggae were gorgeous looking
machines, in white and BRG livery.

I certainly hope so. I've been a Williams fan since I watched a Nigel
Mansell interview on TV in 86 and then have his tyre explode a couple
of days later in Adelaide. I have a horrible feeling they'll be
competing with Red-Bull-Rookie and Midland next year though...

Well Damon was pals with Newey and Newey was not pleased the way Damon
was treated. This lead to Newey's decsion to leave or it was a major
factor.

Damon got the same treatment Nige got. Prost wanted to drive the 1993
Williams and did not want Mansell as a teammate. Prost got Reanult to
give Williams an ultimatum. BMW want a German in the Williams so Frank
had to hire HHF.

BMW insisted on a German driver in the Williams-Renault?

Very interesting...

....particularly as HHF was signed by Williams in 1995 or so, when he
still had a fair bit of his Sauber contract to run and BMW's F1 plans
were in their infancy!
