Default World Champ first race win? - 10-09-2005 , 02:31 AM

Is this Buttons 99th race? and he is yet to win. Whats the most amount of
races a World Champion has driven before getting his first win.

I just dont think Button has what it takes to be WDC, and was thinking has
any world champion gone the amount races Button as done before taking his
first win?

That's original... if you're a goldfish, that discussion was done to death
just a couple of days ago. Can't you be more original than stepping in dog
poo.

Fantastic race and all you can do is bitch about an also ran. Get a life, or
an interest you can enjoy for the positives rather than just being a sour
little boy.

Erm, ok man I think you need to calm down a little. All I'm asking is
which champion has gone the longest without a race win, and how many
races that was?

I do enjoy motorsport, immensly. F1 is not at the top of the pile, but
yeah it was a great race, but it was just something that I was thinking
while the commentators were talking about Honda not owning the whole
team and wanting to take Button to the championship within 5 years.

And what exactly am I buying sour about. If you dont like the post,
dont reply. I have a right to post anything here on F1...

Pretty sure it was Hakkinen and probably at least as many races as JB

Was it, fair enough? Althogh I would say Hakikinen was in a lesser car for
much of his career until McLaren became the dominat force that it was.

Hakkinen 96

Only three drivers (all non-WDCs) took longer - Fisichella 110, Trulli 118 and
Barrichello 123. It's fairly common in modern F1.

Its entirely feasible then that Button could possibly go another couple
of years without a win and go over 123 races without victory. So I
still think he isnt WDC material.

Jenson may or may not be WDC material, but the number of races before his first
win (if it happens) isn't really an indicator. In recent years it has been
possible to clock up 100 starts in about five years, but in the olden days it
could have taken twice as long.

Three time WDC Jackie Stewart only started 99 GPs in his entire F1 career, which
ran from South Africa (01 Jan 1965) to Canada (23 Sep 1973) - eight years and
265 days. Button has reached 99 since Australia (12 Mar 2000) - five years and
211 days.

You're at odds with Honda there, then. They obviously see him as a
future DWC, having signed him for 5 years.

It's pretty obvious to anyone who's watched F1 for any length of time
that the Honda just hasn't got the power available to challenge the
McLarens or the Renaults at the present time, despite the so-called
special engine which they've been touting. Even unchallenged Jenson was
unable to stay up with the leaders, and was losing time with every lap.
