Will GM be around long enough to get it on the road.

At least this technology will be taken over by someone else.

they will just kill it like they did the EV1, great car but the oil
companies bitched and they knew they wouldn't get money from repairs
because all electric cars SELDOM breakdown....

This is not just an electic car. This is a hybrid.

A new trend is beginning to emerge an that is to make the hybrid
pluggable.

Plug-in Priuses currently being tested routinely get more than 100 mpg
when driven in the city, thanks largely to their ability to operate
only on electric power at speeds under 34 mph.

Pluggable hybrids are very close to being an electrical car but with
the added protection of being able to drive far away from any outlet.

The electrical cars, hybrids and pluggables do not have very many
movable parts and there is no saying how long such a car can last.

Given that it is relatively easy to change the batteries after they
have come to the end of their life there is no telling how long the
car itself can last.

The need for heating in the car is managed by the engine and the
engine needs not be directly connected to the wheels so the engine can
always run on optimum, only used for heating and recharging the
batteries.

The need for lights is also being changed into LEDs so the electical
power to drive the lights is also reduced.

A pluggable which is mainly used close to home can have a very very
long mpg and 100+ mpg is easily managed.

The hybrids are already part of the mainstream and the prices are
beginning to come down.

The hybrid manufacturers have been counting on excessive demand and
have been overcharging them but as more and more competition is coming
in this sector we will begin to see the prices go down.

Mass produced pluggable hybrids is the way of the future and there is
no question that ordinary gas gusslers will not be able to compete
very well.
