Default 2001 Impala Power Door Locks - 01-31-2006 , 06:35 PM

I have a 2001 Impala, After replacing the drivers side window switch and a battery. My power door locks quit working. I have power at the fuse, and it is good. After reading a similar problem in this forum, Could my BCM (body control module) have went out. If so can only a certain function go out. From what I understand a BCM contols a variety of functions. Any thoughts would be greatfully appreciated. Thank

Ummmmmmm..... you did some work inside the door panel - on the switches, and
now one of the other switches does not work. And, you're looking everywhere
else for a problem? How about taking the panel back off and looking to see
if you inadvertently dislodged the door lock switch. or perhaps damaged
something else in the process of replacing the window switch? Unless there
is more that you didn't state, it seems kind of obvious where to start.

Thanks for replying. Yes I did take the panel back off. Did not find anything out of the ordinary. I checked for power at the door lock switch and there wasn't any. The fuse is still intact and there is power at the fuse block. Also neither pow. door lock functions. Also the locking option doen't work when you, put the car into gear. Anymore suggestions would be helpful. Thanks again

Perhaps this description from the service manual will give you some insight.
The schematic suggests that you will not ever read voltage on the lock
switches in the door. These put a ground on the appropriate BCM input when
pushed.

Document ID# 698343
2001 Chevrolet/Geo Impala
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Power Door Locks Description and Operation

Power Door Locks System Components

The power window system consists of the following components:

Body control module (BCM).
Driver door lock cylinder switch.
Front passenger door lock cylinder switch.
Driver door lock switch.
Front passenger door lock switch.
Door lock actuators in each of the doors.
DR LK Fuse 20-amp.

Door Lock System Controls

The Power Door Lock System is controlled by the body control module (BCM)
and can be activated by any one of the following:

A door lock switch lock or unlock actuation.
A door lock cylinder switch unlock actuation.
A keyless entry transmitter actuation.
An automatic door lock actuation (Personalization function).
An automatic door unlock actuation (Personalization function).
A last door closed locking (LDCL) actuation (Personalization function).

Door Lock Operation

When the body control module (BCM) detects a transition of either of the
door lock switches to the lock position, it switches the door lock actuator
lock control circuit to voltage. Since the lock actuator unlock control
circuits are at ground potential within the BCM, the door lock actuator
motors transition to the lock position.

Driver Door Unlock Operation

When the body control module (BCM) detects a transition of either of the
door lock switches to the unlock position, it switches the driver door lock
actuator unlock control circuit to voltage. Since the door lock actuator
lock control circuit is at ground potential within the BCM, the left front
(LF) door lock actuator motor transitions to the Unlock position.

The driver door lock actuator unlock control circuit is a dedicated control
circuit used only for the driver door lock actuator motor. This is done so
that the driver door may be unlocked by itself using a keyless entry
transmitter or an automatic door unlock function (if programmed).

Passenger Door Unlock Operation

When the body control module (BCM) detects a transition of either of the
door lock switches to the unlock position, it switches the door lock
actuator unlock control circuits to voltage. Since the door lock actuator
lock control circuit is at ground potential within the BCM, the passenger
door lock actuator motors transition to the unlock position.

The door lock actuator unlock control circuits are dedicated control
circuits used only for the passenger door lock actuator motors. This is done
so that the driver door may be unlocked separate from the passenger doors
using a keyless entry transmitter or an automatic door unlock function (if
programmed).

Lockout Prevention
This function is intended to prevent the vehicle operator from locking the
doors if the key is left in the ignition and any vehicle door is open. The
body control module (BCM) will react after locking all the doors by
unlocking the driver door. The lockout prevention function can be overridden
by manually locking the door.

Key Cylinder Unlock
The body control module (BCM) will provide unlocking of all the doors when
either the driver or front passenger key cylinder switch is actuated to the
unlock position for longer than one second.

Automatic Door Lock/Unlock
The automatic door lock/unlock function is a Vehicle Personalization feature
with the following four programmable modes of operation:

The automatic door lock feature is disabled.
All of the doors lock when the vehicle is shifted out of Park with the
ignition ON.
All of the doors lock when the vehicle is shifted out of Park with the
ignition ON, and only the driver door Unlocks when the vehicle is shifted
into Park.
All of the doors lock when the vehicle is shifted out of Park with the
ignition ON, and all of the doors Unlock when the vehicle is shifted into
Park.
The automatic door lock function can only be enabled by the body control
module (BCM) if the driver door open switch and door ajar switches are in
the Closed state. For information on programming the automatic door locks,
refer to Vehicle Personalization in Personalization.

Air Bag Deployment Unlock
The body control module (BCM) will provide unlocking of all the doors 15
seconds after determining the air bags have been deployed.

Could you please tell me where I can find the Vehicle Personalization. When I changed the battery or window switch, I may have somehow disabled the door function. Thanks for you help

Thank You for all your insite, on my problem. I did try the setting for the Autolock on my car stereo., and no luck. I have tried this methed before to no luck. The information is in the manual, under the Theft Deturrent section. I also re-checked all the fuses that go to the BCM, and replaced them all, and no luck. The power locks still don't operate. Any more insite would be great, Thanks again

If you can't hear it trying to do anything I would suspect a relay (odds are
that the connection from both switches wouldn't be compromised..
