I have a 1987 Old Ciera 3.8L. Is there a way to test the crankshaft
position sensor with a DVM?

Not a good test at all, try to get it on a scanner and see if you have
cranking rpm. If not the crank sensor or the ign. module can be at fault.

You can wing it:

Set the meter to AC voltage, and crank the motor. A good crank sensor will
generate about .25 to 2.0 volts, but don't condemn the sensor if you get no
reading at all. Buy a Snap On Vantage or an OTC graphing multi meter, the
OTC is better.
