My company just stopped paying his employees

Why?

He had a union company and a non union company. He brought his
union accounts over to his non union company. He stopped paying his
union employees so we'd quit. It worked. We made a deal with the
Labour relations board that we wouldn't file any more grievances, if
he gave us our money. We were offered a job at his non union
company before the LRB hearing, but we turned it down. This guy was
bad news.

Is the non-union shop still operating? If so that says he's not.

Yes, but he would only hire people from India that don't speak English

So is it racism, envy or xenophobia driving you? The business I
work for (and it's a very large one) employs many Indians, though not in my
particular department. As best as I can tell, they have come to the US
legally, HAVE learned English (what second language can YOU speak well
enough to integrate into another society?), and have a strong work ethic
(another concept foreign - pardon the pun - to many union folk).

What type of business was this? If it's still going on today with many
workers who don't speak English, I can see how the dismissed workers were
considered expendable.

Not racism. I feel sorry for these employees that are exploited, "white
or brown". How could I be envious of someone making minimum wage, when I
have so much more. Or if you're talking about being envious of my former
employer, how could I be envious of a dead guy? It's difficult trying to
integrate in to a society where everything is different. That's why they
are at the bottom of the food chain. If I went to India, I would expect
to have a job making low wages and slowly work my way up. Why are people
not going to India or Mexico looking for employment? It's because of low
wages, poor education, little or no health care. Now why is that? My
rant is driven by right wing wacko's like yourself trying to tell me that
the country would be better off without unions. If this were true,
unions would be extinct. Nobody's holding a gun to there heads telling
them they must certify. GWB, has destroyed your Country. You're in an
unwinnable war you can't withdraw from. The deficit has never been this
high, unemployment is rising and your dollar just fell another couple
cents to the Canadian dollar. And people like you will probably vote for
a right wing government again.

India is a land of many different languages, so classes in India are taught
in English in order to standardize their education system and simplify
communication and business within their country. It seems that everyone who
is educated is at least bi-lingual.

The Indians I know speak and write English better than you do. They know
that you don't use an apostrophe when spelling a plural form of a noun.

like yourself trying to tell me that
the country would be better off without unions.

Unions reduce spending power. Union teachers produce poorer students.
Union-negotiated health care is bankrupting a new company every day.

If this were true,
unions would be extinct.

Most unions ARE extinct. How many pieces of clothing do you have that were
made by ILGWU?

GWB, has destroyed your Country.

Once again, Indians in the US know that you don't insert a comma within a
simple independent clause. Another ringing endorsement for union teachers.

You're in an
unwinnable war you can't withdraw from.

The only politician I'm aware of who is for withdrawal is Ron Paul, and
he's the guy I'm supporting for President.

The deficit has never been this
high, unemployment is rising

Unemployment is NOT rising.

and your dollar just fell another couple
cents to the Canadian dollar.

And only Ron Paul among national politicians supports hard money.

And people like you will probably vote for
a right wing government again.

I'm voting for Ron Paul.

You're an idiot. My post was done in haste. Why don't you move to
India? The East Indians we get here couldn't tie their shoelaces.

A good many of them are tri-lingual, having also learned Hindi as well as
their local language.

What a concept. I wonder if that would work in this country.

Wall Street Journal - May 20, 2007

David Cole, a longtime industry consultant who leads the Center for
Automotive Research in Ann Arbor, Mich. says one of most critical
challenges facing Chrysler's new owners is negotiating with the United
Auto Workers what he calls a "transformational labor contract" that
lifts from the company much of the $18 billion burden it carries now
for retiree health care.

Why should consumers care? Because restructuring the health-care burden
would free up capital for research and development, leading to better
technology and improved quality for future models, Mr. Cole says.
Perhaps transaction prices for Chrysler cars would go up, but the cars
would be better.

In theory, if Chrysler had another $500 to $1,000 to invest in each car
-- about what it spends on healthcare now -- it could offer more
standard safety equipment without drastically raising the sticker
price. In fact, offering more features while holding prices relatively
flat is another strategy Toyota has used to boost sales...

No, what Cole's trying to "grease" for Cerberus is dumping the
pension/health care liabilities onto the taxpayer in yet another
Republipedo-designed bilking of the US taxpayer and royal screwing of
the US autoworker. Screw him, and screw Cerberus. They wanted it,
they got it.

Detroit Free Press http://snipurl.com/1lez4

GM, Ford and Chrysler lost money in North America, the chief drag on
operations. Toyota, Nissan Motor Co. and Honda Motor Co. made billions
of dollars in North America, helping bring up overall results.

Labor costs are a major reason for the financial difficulties at GM,
Ford and Chrysler, said Joe Phillippi, an auto analyst and principal
with AutoTrends Consulting in Short Hills, N.J.

The domestic and foreign automakers pay similar wages at their North
American plants, Phillippi said. The difference comes in the benefits,
which cost Detroit automakers twice as much as Toyota, he said.
Domestic automakers also have more retirees to support.

Chrysler will need UAW members to pay more of their health care costs
to save money and be competitive with Toyota, Phillippi said.

Cerberus could have more leverage in winning concessions, he said.
Private equity firms are known for taking brazen moves to cut costs.

"They don't have to answer to shareholders," Phillippi said. "They are
the shareholders. If it comes down to a point where they need to play
serious hardball, they can."
