Many medium and heavy duty gas and diesel trucks have used spin on fuel
filters for decades. They look just like an oil filter. No leaks.

I think the Op is getting his info from a 1960's owners manual. No late
model carb or injected vehincle should need 12,000 mile fuel filter
intervals.
