Default Format for DVD in 2004 Odyssey RES - 08-24-2004 , 02:07 AM

I want to burn a few copies of DVDs for the Odyssey, however, I'm unable to
get both + and - formats to work. Store purchased titles work fine, and,
when we purchased the van, our salesperson showed us one of his home-made
DVDs of a trip he took.

Has anyone else had problems with this? I use CDXPBurnerPro for all my CD
and DVD burning needs. Is there another program out there that would work
better and assure that my DVDs will be playable in the van?

Thanks for any and all comments.

Many types of DVD-Rs work, but DVD-RWs and the +R/RWs do not. I have
had luck with Ritek 4x DVD-Rs and CompUSA 1x DVD-Rs (not sure who
makes them).

I can whoheartedly recommend dvdshrink from dvdshrink.org to rip and
downsample a full length dvd. Then you can use nero, roxio, or your
favorite dvd recording software. The copies I have made play in all the
players I've tried.

yes, your best bet would be with ritek -r disks. +r have lower
compatibility, but if you burn with dvdshrink you might be able to get it to
work, if you check off the option for increased dvd+r compatibility

Do a search at www.odyclub.com and you will find a lot of info on your
problem. a lot of time it is simply finding the right brand of DVDs that
work.....

Well, just wanted to post the results of my findings. Although all
suggestions were good, including the suggestion to check out
www.odyclub.com, I discovered that when burning a DVD with Nero 6, the
software selected a REGION FREE burn. When I deselected this option and
selected REGION 1, then put it into my Odyssey, it worked flawlessly!

Now, mind you, this was using DVD -R. It does NOT work with DVD +R
(really didn't expect it to).

Thanks for the replies. Hopefully, this info will assist others with the
same problem.

Same here.

I also use dvdshrink 3.2 and Nero 6.3.1.20 (I use Nero Express) using a
Lite-on 411s (AT) 811s (DOT)
I use +R and +RW discs (Memorex and TDK) exclusively and have had no problem
playing any of them in my 2005 Ody.
Is it possible Alpine updated the dvd players for the 2005 models?

The new Burn. Now application from Ulead has one very interesting feature. It
will take MP3 or other forms of audio and encode them in AC3 so that you can
get 45 hours of audio on one 4.7 gb DVD. Super easy to use interface and
only 30.00 I use the shrink and nero for movies but will look at them for
audio as well.

Thanks for your input
