Default New Accord EX - first impressions - 10-29-2009 , 04:56 PM

I've been driving Accords or CLs now since 1987.

(!!!)

Just traded the lease-end 2007 for the new 2010 EX 4 auto sedan.

Much improved suspension - the 2007 had some unfortunate resonances at
highway speed - now gone.

The new engine config of 190hp is amazing. I've barely had it on the
cam yet, but just pulling away from lights casually, it *feels* like
you're tapping into the bottom range of 400hp, feels like tons of
torque at low RPM. Of course, if you hit it, there ain't 400hp after
all, but 190 is plenty ... the old 160 was plenty.

Who really needs the six?

Also, the brakes are amazing, there is virtually no nose-dive, and it
feels like the modulation control is much better than in any of the
previous generations.

On the negative side is the shift lever, which I guess is a little
drive-by-wire dohicky, with a short radius arc, doesn't even *feel*
like a real shift of any kind, but isn't as light and convenient as
paddles. Just feels cheap - and breakable!

Also, when using the actual key in the actual door lock, it's a bit
sticky, feels like it might torque the key and hurt something, either
the key or the lock. Maybe I'll mention it to the dealer. Anybody
else notice that? Of course, you're supposed to just click the button
and let the transmitter do the unlocking!

I'm curious to see what mileage I get. The 2007 was rated at 34
highway, and after the first year, I usually got around 31mpg on a
tank. The 2010 is rated at 31mpg highway. I hope that's more a
revision of how the calculate it, than a real change.

J.
