*Sorry if this is a double post*

I have a 1987 Civic Std. Hatchback: 1.3L 12Valve 3bbl Keihin
carbureted. It has dealer installed A/C and am currently having
trouble when either an accessory or most importantly the A/C is turned
on. The idle speed does not compensate for the load on the alternator
&/or A/C compressor and the idle speed drops WAY down or the engine
stalls.

I have checked fuses, vacuum lines, and looked at the carburetor
linkage for obvious signs of a problem. I also referred to the
Chilton's manual vacuum & electrical diagrams but did not find
anything regarding idle/throttle compensation when the headlights or
A/C is switched on.

It started when I was vacuuming out the car with it running and the
a/c on. All of the sudden the engine just stalled. It has
intermittently begun working again but now it doesn't work at all.

Otherwise the A/C works perfectly & the engine runs flawessly @
165,000 miles.

Where should I look? Heal 2 toe driving at stoplights is getting old
fast because it is 104oF here right now.

I have not found a good resource the way the boost system is supposed
to function or how to troubleshoot.

Chris
I don't remember the specifics for this car but you'll want to search for an
"electrical load idle booster". Perhaps Google will turn up something or
someone here can offer more specific advice. If not, then a factory service
manual from http://www.helminc.com ought to cover it. These manuals seem a
little pricey at first but are a good investment if you plan on keeping your car
for a while.

Right on! Thanks for the info.
I'll check on it.
