Default '02 Accord Keyless Entry programming problem - 03-18-2008 , 09:57 PM

I've read numerous posts about the subject but have had no luck
finding a problem quite like mine.

I bought a keyless entry kit, (with trunk actuator), from handa-
accessories for my 2002 Accord LX 4dr. The kit included two
transmitters, the receiver, trunck actuator, and wiring harness parts.

I installed the kit per the instructions and I'm confident that it was
done correctly...

I performed the programming as follows and all seemed OK:
II
Lock
I
II
Lock
I
II
Lock
I
II
Lock

At this point the locks cycle, that is to say that I can hear them. I
start with the doors unlocked and when I hear them cycle they barely
move but stay unlocked.

I continue the programming by turning the key off and removing the
key.

Problem: The entry system at this point does not respond at all. I've
checked to be sure that all doors are shut, including the trunk. I've
redone the sequence with another remote, both remotes, different
buttons on the remotes and every combination that I can think of. Each
time the system responds during programming, but at the end of the
programming cycle I get nothing.

Any ideas? I talked to a guy at HandA and he suggested that sometimes
the driver's side actuator or lock, (I couldn't remember) acts as a
master of sorts and that in rare instances a failure there might make
itself manifest upon installation of a keyless entry system without
any previous problems. Has anybody heard of this?

Where did you get the programming instructions? Did you have the car's
battery disconnected throughout the installation?

The instructions came with the receiver and transmitters. I should
also mention in case it was not clear in the original post that this
is all Honda equipment. The part number of the kit is: 08E61-S84-100.
And yes, the battery was disconnected.

Also, I tried many combinations after it didn't work. When I start
with the car locked, all doors unlock when the system goes into
program mode.

Basically, it seems that the parts are good, and the system does go
into program mode, but nothing happens after exiting program mode.

Here's another set of instructions for a CR-V:

These are actually for an Accord:

Maybe you'll see something you're missing in your procedure. I did it
after dark, reading the instructions with the interior light on and it
was awkward but it worked the SECOND time.

Here's more info about finding alternate versions of the PGM
instructions: Yeah, it's a bit hard to find . . . start here EBSCOHost
Research Databases:
http://arrc.epnet.com/autoasp/framerq.asp
This is a wonderful site with tons of excellent info, everything from
repair procedures to recalls and TSBs.
It's all free, and legal for personal, non-commercial use only.
You need to log in with the following information:

* Username: lib
* Password: access

Then choose Auto Repair Reference Center from the menu on the left.
Then I went to '98 /
honda /
EX model/
Electronic Devices, Computers, PROMS, Sensors /
Keyless remote transmitter info revised.
(it's a PDF so you may want to 'open in new window') It's 19 pages long,
depending on which one of the three you open.

Another link that's useful:
https://www.thepartsyouneed.com/displayProductDocument.hg?productId=135&categoryId =14

you may have to select another version / model.
