Default 1994 Honda Civic- Ignition lock - 05-09-2005 , 07:43 PM

Someone tried to steal my sons Honda and destroyed the ignition key hole.
The steering wheel is in the LOCKED position. We have plugged in a new
ignition and the car does start, its that the steering wheel is still
locked. How do I unlock it? Please help. THANKS

Try to unlock the steering wheel with the cylinder removed. Use a Phillips or
flathead screw driver. If it won't unlock then the mechanism is either broken
or a shattered material has jammed the ignition column assembly.

if that's the case, the o.p. needs to be very careful when they free up
the mechanism. if the shaft has been scored & damaged, it can in time
fatigue. potentially fatal. that's how ayrton senna died. best policy
if damage is evident is to go to a junk yard & get a replacement
steering shaft assembly. fairly quick & simple to replace. hardest
thing is removing the steering wheel! check the helm manual for proceedure.
