Default Front end noise after CV replacement - 03-05-2009 , 01:27 AM

Dealer said my CV boots were split, so I went to a reputable
independent shop to have the CV axles replaced with new non-OEM
units. They drove fine until later backing out I noticed the front
end making a sharp pop, snap, or knock noise on a sharp turn with
acceleration. It doesn't repeat, it just sounds once or twice on the
acceleration.

I looked under the car and from what I could see of the outer CV
boots, they looked sealed and fine. Are the boots breaking in or do I
need to return to the shop ASAP?

Thanks.

The sound that you describe is that of worn joints. This sound should
be noticeable when making sharp turns at low speed.

At least one of your new shafts is likely defective and needs to be
replaced.

Aftermarket is usually crappy and is hit-and-miss as far as usability goes.
It can occasionally take several shaft installations before one is found
that does not make noise.

Take 'er back.

I agree with the other two. I had the CVs on my CRX replaced with
non-OEMs. After a couple of months, klunk. Took it back. They
replaced one under warranty. Repeated process. Then went to my Honda
dealer, who replaced both for about 10% more than what I paid, gave me
the joints and told me to take them back. The shop "refunded" me 50%.
I haven't been back there since.

Things like brake pads I use non-Honda. But I also use higher
performance.
