A friend of mine had a similar problem on his '96 Accord. The left rear
door wouldn't lock or unlock due to a bad actuator. The actuator made
noise, but would not lock/unlock the door. We first trawled the local
junk yards for a replacement actuator, but did not find one. I ended up
buying part number 330-010 from http://www.partsexpress.com. Part number
330-580 is the same form factor but more expensive. 330-582 is smaller,
and may be easier to make fit.

I installed this actuator in the rear door (while leaving the original
actuator in there). I cut the leads to the original actuator and
soldered them to the new one. It has been working well for about 11
months now.

The actuators in the rear doors have two wires only. Do a test
connection without soldering (or crimping, whatever your preference is).
If the new actuator locks when all other doors unlock and vice versa,
just reverse polarity to the new actuator.

Many systems use a different actuator in the driver's door with more
than two wires. In this case two wires are for the actuator itself, and
the remaining are for switches that sense the position of the lock. If
you put in an after market actuator here, you need to cut only the two
wires operating the actuator and leave the switch wires as is.
