Yeah, I was going to mention why they stopped running ovals twice a
year: For track owners, it's a loser.

It's pretty much an axiom these days that you're dividing the same
crowd over two dates. People have more entertainment options than
time. It's the same reason that IMS only has big crowds on race day
and the preceding carb day in May. (Though I think Da Split is mostly
responsible for the death of Pole Day.)

You would have preferred the drivers to die? Remember the ridiculous
comments of Reininger where he asserted that he couldn't find any CART
drivers who were dizzy. What a pant load! Where has that boy fucked-
off to anyway? Maybe he has a remote cabin in the wilderness with no
internet access next to TJMC? And, Mac the whack too; got themselves
a regular TOIRLH.

Is the IRL Doomsday Clock now one minute closer? Bwhahahahahahaha!

I think we have a winner.

I have always thought that TG had too much ego to demand 3 voting
seats on the CART board. I also thought that the CART board had too
much ego to ignore the lucky spermer, small dicked, dope snorting
idiot grandson who clearly had an upper hand in being handed Indy.

It takes two to tango and it took two big egos to destroy US OW.

CART was doing fine before TG made his unreasonable demands.

It was and still is all about ego -- not racing and what the fans

The fans have spoken. They spoke a deafening silence by leaving open
wheel. Current fan base is a small fraction of what it was and very
likely what it would still be had TG not created a split and the
resulting rift.

No. i would have preferred that CART stuck to their original
declaration that the banking at TMS made that track unsuitable for
their cars.

No, but I remember Kenny Brack saying he had no problem with
dizziness. Of course, he was a seasoned IRL driver, used to the big
time.

Seriously, though, CART's technical people originally decided that
they could not run at TMS. IIRC, CART PR threw quite a snit over the
banking. It was ludicrous that the political/marketing wing of CART
then decided to try racing there anyway. Apparently their egos
demanded that they go toe-to-toe with IRL, much like they did with the
US 500 vs the Indy 500.

While I still don't remember Reininger not finding any, I did just
hear from him. He does not get usenet in his cabin, but they do have
a connection in the nearby village. The villagers were very excited
to see The Big Guy (as they know him) mentioned in your post. They
sent a runner up to tell him he's still remembered.

The Big Guy sends his regards to the group.

TJ's situation is a little different. His cabin is in a different
location. He does have usenet access, but with Sweeney no longer
posting here he's lost interest.

His big problem, though, is trying to get the security deposit back on
the CART Doomsday Clock. The telltale in the clock indicates that it
hit zero three times, which they've never seen before and think means
some kind of abuse.

Obviously, Tony George successfully bought the "Doomsday Clock" so
it could be re-set for the IRL, or at least his "vision' of American
open wheel racing.

It's surprising that all the IRL loyalists mentioned in Ken's post
aren't all over the place with their enthusiasm for CART's
demise, and more significantly, the IRL in full bloom, yet
surprisingly similar in format to CART, save for diversity,
TV ratings, major title sponsor, etc.

I'd say the Doomsday Clock is ticking, and perhaps ticking
a little faster as the Hulman family evaluates their investment
in the IRL. Let's hope for the IRL's quick demise and
a new series that gets back to what once was, without the
pretense of "progress" or retrograde improvement the IRL
promised and failed to deliver.

It would be great to see Indy return to its former greatness,
and to have a series with real prestige, competition, and
more than just a female driver and a primetime dance
contest winner as the headline makers.

As for TJ in his cabin, tell him that the IRL has really
shaken things up since 1995 and all the Hondas (that
will be easier for TJ to keep track of) are racing
at uh...a street race in Toronto. Wow, how things have
changed. :-)
