In 1994, Andretti was the first driver to attempt to race in the Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. If Andretti starts the 500, he will tie Roberto Moreno for the third-longest hiatus between Indy 500s. Only Roland Free and Cy Marshall, who each had 17 years between races, had longer layoffs between Indy 500s. http://www.speedtv.com/articles/auto/indycar/37399/ |

How many more zero-quality drivers will magically appear with the initials "TBA"? Maybe Lynn St. James will make another run.... Or how about the legendary Kevin Cogan? |

For those not in the know (90+ % of those here), John has more podium finishes, including wins, in both CART and Cup, than most of the participants in either series. Jeff's (yet another Andretti Rookie of the Year) life was very nearly ended when Foyt installed a known struck and damaged wheel (they don't simply spontaneously and catastrophically shatter for no reason) on his car, which inevitably failed, leading to the quite premature end of his barely begun career. |

How many more zero-quality drivers will magically appear with the initials "TBA"? Maybe Lynn St. James will make another run.... Or how about the legendary Kevin Cogan? John maybe one of the better drivers in the field. He didn't just compete in Cup, he won there. He won in Cart pre split. Drove dragsters for a while as well. The layoff won't help him but he is much younger than many that have come out of retirement to run it one more time. If he gets any seat time at all, the technology has been dumbed down to the point that he probably can get up to speed fairly quickly compared to most. Thing is with a top field, John should have no chance at all at being competitive. The fact that he will not only make the show with as little seat time as he will get, but might be competitive in the race says less about John and more about the IRL. |
