Default Blank Sidepods - 08-24-2006 , 11:17 AM

A recent poster alluded to the blank sidepods at
the 2006 Indianapolis 500 which made wonder which
cars he was talking about.

I don't think there were any blank sidepods at
Indy this year. Of course there were some with
Etanol Brazil and VideoPoker.com, but every series
has their Curacao or what have you sponsors.

Feel free to post photos of unsponsored cars in the
2006 Indy 500.

I'm off to the airport. See you next week.

Hollar at me if you're into checking out 360
sprint cars at Petaluma Speedway before they
tear down the track and put in a Target
or a Rusport.

Well a Robin Miller article was there speculating that about 13 cars had
funding from IMS to be there. When Indy was over, just how many times
did they start again? I know you are going to say that just Robin being
Robin. Just off the top of my head Team Carmelo was one.

Going back to the Indy Racing League website and checking the results
PDM, Larry Foyt, Arie Jr, Vision Racing, Dreyer & Reinbold, Cheever
Racing show no sponsors. Roger Yasukawa (did he run at the Action
Track) and Jaques Lazier shows the team as Playa Del Racing which has no
sponsors with that as well but the name could mean some company. It
sure isn't a fine American company.

Thats at the IRL's biggest race of the year.

And how many of those "Sponsorships" were freebies. Many of those campanies
had their names slapped on those sidepods just to take up space.

Don't you find it difficult to spot through those rose colored

What? Petaluma is next for the wrecking ball? Now that hurts.

Well it is for those heros of the short tracks that will one day run in
the IRL. You know the drivers the IRL was formed to give a chance to
get back to Indy.

Honestly he won't say anymore on this. He asked for the data thinking
no one would post it. This time it wasn't that hard to find and it
didn't come from Robin Miller. It came from the IRL website.

The series could very easily find itself with the same problem that OWRS
had one year with teams leaving right at the last minute. In a way it
will be funny to see the shoe on the other foot. With the new Champ Car
so much cheaper than the current IRL car, and the IRL reaching the end
of its chassis cycle, investment it going to be required. Even buying
new cars it should be a great deal CHEAPER to run a full season of Champ
Car, and if you wanted to do an Indy one off with the cars you already
have you can put a driver in to take some of Tony's money if you wanted
to. Run the full Champ Car schedule and get someone to test the car,
qualify the car (which isn't a problem these days) run it carb day and
if you wanted to put your top driver in the car just do it for carb and
race day. Personally I wouldn't risk any driver in a title fight, ask
Bruno for the reason. Don't expect to win any rulings either. You
shouldn't even be shocked to win, then have someone else given the
trophy and money. Its been done before.
