Although his plans to take part in this weekend’s round 10 of the CASCAR
Super Series fell through at the last minute, Patrick Carpentier says he
intends to continue to pursue stock car racing as the next stage in his
career. To that end, the former Champ Car and IRL IndyCar star says, he
declined an offer to compete in this weekend’s IndyCar Series finale at
Chicagoland Speedway.
The French-Canadian, who is still associated with Mecachrome
International, says he turned down an invitation to race with a
“top-notch” Indy Racing League at Chicagoland Speedway to pursue his
CASCAR goals. He didn’t specify which team, but A.J. Foyt IV is filling
in for the injured Dario Franchitti at Andretti Green Racing this weekend.
“Lately, I have been telling everyone that my future in racing lies in
stock car,” said Carpentier. “I would have probably accepted the IRL
team invitation, but I also had the opportunity to race again with
Jacombs Racing (in CASCAR). Between the two, I opted for the stock car
event.”
