It was on earlier this week. As usual, the same "boring" old crap from a "know-nothing" like David, asking interesting and humorous questions of Bourdais and Newman about how Paul came into CART in 1983 after Can-Am died, saying that he got a phone call from Carl Haas when he ran out of a place to sell his chassis. Paul: "I know you Carl, you've always delivered your cars late and overweight" Carl: "How about If we had Mario Andretti as a driver" Paul: "Where do I show up?" Later on... David: "Does your wife support your racing?" Paul: (about his last race at Lime Rock in November) "She gave me my helmet and told me that it was my last race" "Then I went from 3rd. to finish first and she (Joanne Woodward) said "Never stop racing, and always ignore what I tell you"" --- Even later: Paul Shaeffer: "How old is he?" Letterman: "82" Audience: "applause!" Letterman later called Bourdais Newman's "Paper Boy". |
