Default Bump Day next week - 05-13-2007 , 01:46 PM

Can the polesitter be unseated on that day? The announcers keep talking
about the first 11 as set...

Technically, Yes. It would take 33 cars to go faster next Sunday.

I don't follow...here it talks about Bump Day at the bottom:
http://www.indycar.com/tech/101/qualifying.php#indy

However, it does not say where the car that did the bumping will be
positioned. Will it be at the end regardless of speed or somewhere in the
relative to the speed -- the problem I see with the latter is that Sharp
was faster than Andretti but is behind him.

The first day qualifiers are in 1-11.
Second day in 12-22.
Third day in 23-33.
After the field is full, the slowest car, no matter where in the field is
bumped and the car that did the bumping is placed at the end of the field,
with the cars between moving up one position.

If the field is filled (purely hypothetical situation for the IRL) and
the car is the eleventh position is the slowest, then that would be the
first car bumped.

The slowest car is bumped from the field regardless of where they qualified.

Not quite, but close. The slowest car where ever it happens to be in
the field is bumped. Yet a car qualifying on the last day will start
behind all the qualifiers that ran the previous day. All Pole day
qualifiers that make the race will start ahead of any second day
qualifiers. Bump day qualifiers will start behind them. Lets just
say a car on bump day beats the pole speed and is fastest for the
day. The slowest car qualified on day 1. The slow car is bumped all
other day one and day two qualifiers move up a spot, the bump day
qualifier would start behind them as the fastest car on bump day will
all other cars that could make it in that day starting behind them.
