Make sure the Safety Crew have their catcher's mitts on http://www.speedtv.com/articles/auto/indycar/32257/ Dario Franchitti will not drive in Sunday’s final IndyCar Series race of the season at Chicagoland Speedway, having suffered a concussion last week in a crash of his Jaguar E-type vintage car at the Goodwood Revival race weekend in England. Franchitti will be replaced on the Andretti Green Racing team by A.J. Foyt IV, who has not driven an open-wheel car since the end of last season when he left his grandfather’s team. Foyt, 22, recently moved to North Carolina to explore options in NASCAR. He has driven in seven Busch Series races this season, the last being at Texas Motor Speedway in April. He drove in four last year. Practice and qualifying for the Peak Antifreeze Indy 300 is Saturday, but Foyt is expected to receive extra track time and a refresher test under the supervison of IRL officials Thursday, according to the event. AGR co-owner Kevin Savoree. “I’m very excited to have an opportunity like this to drive the Klein Tools/Canadian Club car for Andretti Green," Foyt said. "It’s obviously a great race team and should be a very competitive car on Sunday. We’re going to be able to do this at a place where I’ve got a lot of laps and I expect to have a good, strong weekend.” Team co-owner and CEO Michael Andretti added, “We’re looking forward to having Anthony in the Klein Tools/Canadian Club car this weekend. It’s unfortunate that Dario won’t be able to drive, but we’re confident that Anthony will do a great job for us. He’s got a lot of natural talent and we’re hoping to give him a fast car this weekend.” -- Dario has had some unfortunate luck off of the track the past couple of |

and this should be all the confirmation, you need, that the Speedwagon is leaving the EARL. That would be a good inference. |

So what happened off-track? Did Ashley run over him? Or was it an on-track incident? Does crashing an E-type not qualify as a racing accident? |

Does crashing an E-type not qualify as a racing accident? Depends on whether you consider the Goodwood event to be a race. Carey is referring to Dario's motorcycle wreck. The one where he broke his back. Should be interesting to see what Anthony can do in a good car. Ken Plotkin |
