It would have been better if the field of 33 would have had better drivers rather than maybe as many as 8 contenders. The rest of the 25 field fillers consisted of wanna-be's, has-beens, a couple of lucky rich boys and some that never-weres. But at this declined stage of the Indy 500, it didn't matter much who ran. Few actually paid attention to the race. |

Is this any different than what nascar puts on the track? Or any other form of racing for that matter. On Mon, 29 May 2006 22:25:53 -0500, "Merrill P. L. I caught a bit of the middle, flipped it around and caught the end. It was a typical IRL race. A lot of cruising, backmarkers really causing problems because they were that slow, the usual late race caution to bunch the field up so they can scream this is the X closest finish in Indy history. In a top flight racing series a rookie, no matter how talented, should have little to no chance of winning. Then again neither should a driver that hadn't been in a car in years, but both were true. Without that late race caution Michael might have pulled it off. Luck is a part of it and Penske has had his share at Indy over the years. He got a little more Sunday. C'mon! Everyone knows that Marco's the second best driver out there, that's |

Even before the CART/IRL split there were probably only 8 to 10 true contenders in any given year. |

The fact that both Michael and Marco were finishing so high says a lot about the rest of the field. |

Mario has been a winner and competitive throughout his career. |
