The IRL IndyCar Series will conduct an extensive compatibility test on
a version of the Daytona International Speedway road course at the end
of the month, possibly with a view to adding the venue to its 2007
calendar.
Six drivers from four teams will test on a ten-turn 2.73-mile version
of the DIS road course on September 26th-27th in what is a mandatory
type compatibility test for any prospective IRL venue.
The intended version isn't the full 3.56-mile variant used for the
Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona although it still contains much of the
backstretch, turns three and four and the tri-oval of the famous
2.5-mile Superspeedway oval.
Reigning IRL Champion Sam Hornish Jr will lead the test along with
former series champions Dan Wheldon, Scott Dixon and Tony Kanaan,
reigning rookie of the year Marco Andretti and series frontrunner Vitor
Meira.
